yeah, I wasn't a big fan of Onkyos sound before this year, but the new line sounds very musical. You have a great receiver. I typically listen to music while on here at night also.

you want to trade receivers for a few weeks? It may get my wife moving on the idea even quicker... oh and my Dyns would love the extra juice

hey callas, how do you like your dyaudio monitors for front L & R mains? i am debating on downsizing from towers? am i crazy? i mean its not a room issue at all but just wondering if i would be as happy with monitors. im not worried about bass as i have my svs sub. where can i find pricing on dyaudio speakers?

would want to find a pair of monitors with a matching center, not concerned with matching surrounds as i can use what i have or something else.

was interested in 2 setup's

either dm3/7 or dm 2/10 pair with dm center

OR

pair of exite 16 with x22 center

what do you think

thanks

Ryan, would you consider using 3 of the same monitor/bookshelves across the front, and would this be possible physically with your set-up? I am in the market for a front soundstage upgrade and have been shopping around myself. I have been considering going with 3 identical monitors across the front if I can fit the middle one under my TV.

i dont know if it would work as i have an entertainment center that has an area. check out my gallery and you will see the spot for my center speaker just below my tv. my dali center is there now with white grill.

the space is about 21.5" wide, 9.5" high and 18" deep. so my center speaker cant be any bigger than that.

Yeah, it would be the height that would be the issue. I am still wondering what others think of your monitor question, as I am eyeing a pair of monitors myself with a center channel over on Audiogon (although they are not Dynaudio speakers. )

Ryan, I will say that the X16s with the 7" woofers and 1.1 tweeter gives me a very large soundstage. Dynaudio speakers are built with a design for a large soundstage. Output for a monitor is very good. The Paradigm Studio 60 felt bigger, but the B&W CM8 really didn't feel that much bigger. Both had a little better bass, but thats to be expected. In terms of Mid-range and highs, the Dyns are a better speaker, there is a more resolving mid-range, and the highs are smoother.

The DM3/7s are $2k, the DM Center is $750

The Excite X16s are $1600 and the X22 Center is $850. (I bought VTI stands for $130.)

The DM 2/10s and DM 2/8s are being discontinued, but I believe the $1400 and $1200 list, respectively. I have seen the 2/8s at $900 and the 2/10s at $1050 because they are closing out.

FWIW, the DM Center and the X22 are basically the exact same speaker, there is only a difference in the crossover that is used.

thanks for the info. wow i wasnt expecting them to be that high for monitors, but then again they are a high end speaker line

Do you have the x22 center to go with your monitors?

do you think its a good chance that a deal can be made if i bought the pair of x16 with a x22 center? most of these dealers usually give some sort of a break?

$850 for a center is a bit steep for me. my dali center retailed for $795, but i didnt pay that for it

almost wondering if i should just keep what i got and be happy. either way if i try and sell the dali's i am looking at spending some good $$ for dynaudio speakers...

I,m sure the dealer can do something but surely Dynaudio does not like them to play with the price too much and it's the same with Totem, my center retails at 1100 in cherry and I got it for 900$ so they have a small margin, I saved a total of 400$ off my center and bookshelve, so it cost me a total of 1900$ instead of 2300$.

Let me tell you. I know they are high for Monitors, but like I said, I was comparing them to towers that were even more expensive and they outperform them. They truely make some awesome speakers.

I heard the Focal 806s the other day, and the Dyns are tonally a better speaker, with added mid-range and smoothness, just to give you a comparision to another monitor of high end. The guy that was there trading them in was buying the DM 2/6 and saying how much better the DM was at a lower price. I only heard about 1 song, so it was tough to know exactly, but the guy was telling me this. He took a $300 trade-in for the 806s to get the Dyns.

I got my Dyns for $1320 plus tax for the X16s, then $130 for stands.

I have not bought the X22 yet, I know I will be getting 15% off for it, my dealer already gave me pricing on it. However, I want a better receiver before I get the center channel, because the X16s image so well and have such a big soundstage, I don't even miss having a center channel.

I don't know if you saw my edit on the last post... but

FWIW, the DM Center and the X22 are basically the exact same speaker, there is only a difference in the crossover that is used. It adds to the transients, low-frequency, and there will be better resolution of mid-range detail as the Excites use a better tweeter also, but the cabinet and woofers are the same.

try showing her the pictures of the inside of the 5008 those are very impressive, the shipping cost to trade for a couple weeks would account for a good down payment 55 pounds would be better spent on your new toy of choice

I have read some great things on them (never listened to them), but they seem to have a price (even used models) to match, so they are sort of out of my budget.

I would pick the X22, cause it has the better crossover and tweeter.

I think you could get out with the X16 and X22 center for about $2000-2200... I will end up paying about $2050 or so. Before tax!
