thanks DjMethod!

haha well, reason behind buying so much is because for awhile i was busy paying off bills and car repairs, so i didn't have a whole bunch to throw at blus. and then i was deciding for a long while "do i buy just absolute favorites, or if i see a sale and i enjoy the film (or think i will) do i get it?" and that's what i decided to start doing.

too many times i rented and then wanted to watch it again only to have to head out and rent it again. so now, i try to keep titles below $10 before purchasing (but already that's been broken a few times ) so in time, my collection will be growing.

i'm already starting to save for the next Criterion sale in July. aiming at 17 titles... but we'll see lol

Oh no, you caved in.

Sometimes when I'm about to throw a bunch of money down on blu-rays I think of you and your "less is better" mentality. NOW what am I going to do?

Well I just realized that my logged posts on this thread are about to be deleted past the 500 "view all posts" post limit (I have 493 in this thread). So I'm looking for my past reviews while it's easier to do so.

You can do it easy. If you want to search your past 500 posts, click on the post number under your subscribed threads, then the post number next to your name. For your previous posts, all I can think of that would help you is when you get to a page on this thread, type Ctrl + F, then type iam1bearcat. Then for every page you visit, type Ctrl + F then Enter to quickly browse over any posts you've made. Diesel or any other mods might know a quicker process.

As for the linking:

Training Day

  • 2001 | R | 122 Minutes

  • Director:Antoine Fuqua

  • Starring: Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke

  • Crime | Drama | Thriller

  • First Time Viewing

Short one.

I did not like it.

The story wasn't interesting, the characters weren't interesting, the movie wasn't interesting.

Denzel won an Oscar for this performance? Really?
He was fine, but Best Actor Academy Award? No way. Of course, I haven't seen the other nominated performances from that year, so maybe they sucked and okay won out (I do want to see Ali and A Beautiful Mind at some point).
Also, my eyes just about rolled completely around when he said the King Kong line
He was much better in American Gangster than he was here.

Everyone else was

There honestly wasn't a single "highlight" to the movie for me at all....except for Terry Crews who I think is awesome even when he shows up and never says a word in this movie

An incredibly forgettable movie.

Rating - 2.25/5

I want my two hours of my life back.

Edit: I did a search through the thread for reviews of this movie just now....looks like I'll get some flack for this one

Edit 2: Reading down a few posts from Bearcat's review of it is Squid telling people to see Triangle...somethings never change

Wonderful movie if you enjoyed the first two, though this movie different from the past two installments. I really enjoyed all three of them.

Ahem...excuse my outburst...

Far be it for me to criticize your criticism, for it is rather valid, but I respectfully disagree, as I personally found the story and characters of "Training Day" rather engaging.

I think I just loved the way that Denzel's character was so loose and neurotic, in direct contrast to his new partner. That in itself is a thrilling premise imo.

I gave it a 4/5 in the end. I think it dragged at some spots, so I can see how it's uninteresting. Still...

he was... fine...? do you know what talent is you alien killin' fool?! as i said in my review, easily his best performance that i've seen of his. Czar tells me that he's better in Malcolm X, but we'll see. if anything, he's probably more hot headed and violent here which may stand out more. but again, not sure since i haven't seen Malcolm X.

i have actually seen all the other nominees that year (wow. that surprises me even lol) and Denzel definitely deserved it. i think Crowe would have been in second place, but it's been awhile since i've seen A Beautiful Mind. but Denzel definitely deserved the award imo

see, i thought the same thing for a very long time. and while my eyes did roll (almost out of my effin head when i heard it the first five times) i realized, that it's very much like his character to say it. remember: he's as egotistical as they come. it's not a bad line, because it fits his character. i believe we're supposed to have that reaction because it's like, "wtf. who does this guy think he is?" and you think, "wow. this guy has seriously lost it" by making such a stupid, obnoxious statement. so while it is dumb in a sense, it fits the character well.

you mean the whole other character that was on screen for longer than 5 minutes, in Ethan Hawke? i agree here. although, as much as i dislike Hawke, this is easily his best role (not saying a whole lot looking at his career).

I love how you can't tell what Alonzo's going to do from one minute to the next and then
[Show spoiler]somewhere towards the end you realize he planned almost everything that happened in the first half of the movie for weeks. Even his trainee didn't get it at first, only after a lot of evidence was in front of him did he get it.
I like Man on Fire just a bit more but that's because he gets a whole lot of killing done in that one in just a short amount of time.

I understand your score.
I would give it 3.25/5

Was it great? By no means. It wasnt.
Did I enjoy it?
To some extent, although not absolutely.

It was like one of these thrillers which get aired over the air on TV.

In any case, I didnt feel like I wasted my time.

Well I checked out...

The Fighter

I heavily enjoyed it, but it wasn't without a lot of flaws.

I was very on this one when I saw the trailer, it didn't look bad, it looked like typical Oscar bait. I decided to watch it just because of the fact it came out on a Wednesday (2-4-1 Wednesdays FTW!!!) and because of it's suspected hype.

Christian Bale is amazing in here, Oscar in the bag I say. There is something just very hypnotising in his preformance. It such a same that the person he acts against is Mark Wahlberg as Mark Wahlberg, he's not bad, he just doesn't seem to be trying all that much. Most the other side cast acting is either great or passable.

The story and script are both superb, it seems to be able to fluctuate with both funny and serious moments (sometimes it's just a little bit too comical at parts but ehh, I laughed so complain is pretty pointless). I will admit, it took me a while to get hooked to the film, but when it finally did I was very hooked.

My main problem comes from Amy Adams though, her relationship with Mark Wahlberg is so fake, like a lot of stuff in the film, it struggles too in trance you into the film. Amy Adams does not deserve that Oscar nod (Melissa Leo is fantastic though) she's an infuriating character, who is hard to back up. You know she's right and has a point, yet so she's so snarly about it, and up tight that you really wish Mark Wahlberg would stop standing there next to her like a dummy while she controls him with her hand up his ass.

Plus, did anyone notice that weird smug thing that kept appearing at the top of the screen in scenes, annoying as hell

I was tattering into 8.5 territory, but then there was a boxing scene (2nd too last one) and I just realised how much I was rooting for this character, and how much I wanted him to succeed. But Amy Adams guys I don't care how see through that bra was, she was annoying.

8/10
