The first 9 releases are in digipaks with slipcovers but you can buy plastic replacements. Now, the digipak releases, which are usually multiple discs, are housed in slipboxes while the rest are plastic cases.

You could always get a part-time job to pay for your fix.

Late Spring blu-ray would be great. I would be happy if Criterion released any Ozu on blu-ray this year, though.

Been out of state on business for the past 2 weeks, so I haven't had the time to post/lurk for a while. Did I miss anything interesting?

Any criterion.com coupon codes yet?

I wouldn't say that you've missed anything important.

And no, unless you count the 24-hour coupon that Criterion posted on Twitter today for 50%-off "The Ice Storm" DVD from their website... the code is SNODAY.

I finally got around to watching Make Way For Tomorrow late last night, and I thought it was a such a wonderful tragic, and beautiful movie.
Today, I couldn't wait to call and tell my parents how wonderful they are, and told them how much I appreciate everything about them.

And may these words live in infamy: If you haven't cried by the end of watching "Make Way For Tomorrow", you are a heartless person and I hope you die an unexpected slow and painful death.

If a persons death is slow and painful, I'm pretty sure it would be expected.

senso beaver comparison is very interesting and somewhat disconcerting.
personally I much prefer the look of the Studio Canal edition.
just tragic that it has no English subs.
just looking at those screenshots the Criterion definitely looks much too bright for my tastes in comparison with the SC which looks much richer and frankly fantastic.
not really sure what is going on here.
since the screencaps are somewhat compressed I will have to wait to see the "real" thing, but I'm really a bit surprised at the difference.
anybody else feel this way?

I disagree. The Criterion edition is richer and the colors are eye-popping. It's beautiful.

How can one cry like a baby and then put out such violence towards a person?

Not sure. Maybe fascism is en vogue?

interesting.
clearly people can look at the same thing and have completely different reactions.
just to clarify--I wasn't trying to say the Criterion release was poor or anything like that; but just noting my preference for the look of the SC release.
(at least based on that evidence)
I'm certainly getting the Criterion disc and look very much forward to seeing how it looks on my system.

Default Hey Guys

I'm new to the forums. Has there been any mention, or do you guys think there is a chance of a Rushmore, Life Aquatic or Royal Tenenbaums BD release? My hopes went up when I saw that Fear and Loathing is coming.

Got my Benjamin Button and Complete Monterrey Pop blu-rays from Borders.com today. These were both on sale for awhile and prices were too good to pass up for a couple of Criterions that were on my "want it but can wait" wish-list. However, the Benjamin Button disc came without a slipcover. I have never been a slipcover freak, and ordinarily would not mind, but with this being a Criterion - and me knowing it is supposed to come with a slipcover - now suddenly I feel disappointed and really want the slip. Not really worth sending back, so I think I may go to the nearest store and exchange it. "Hello, my name is Oildude, and I am a slipcover addict".

The Monterrey Pop Collection arrived just fine. At least it came with the box.

Packaging could have been better, though. Both came in separate child-proof cardboard bags that in the process of trying to open, I ripped the receipts in half.

Let's hope not, but there haven't been any clues to those releases, so, expect a decent wait for them.

Don't know, but they have some good deals right now. I got a few. I am still trying to track down a few OOP titles at reasonable prices. Not easy.

Yea, on the slipcover thread, it seems that the movie doesn't come with slipcovers anymore. I also haven't notice one with a slipcover at the Best Buys, Targets, etc. that I go to.

I hope so, as of now, I got 3 of Anderson's movies on blu-ray and hopefully the other 3 will come out soon.
