4. Florida St. - I'm hearing they have a good shot at moving up to #1 overall before everythign is said and done.
5. Texas - No surprise.
6. LSU
7. Georgia
8. Clemson
9. Notre Dame
10. Ohio St.

Anyone see the size of the overall #1 ranked HS player?

Jadeveon Clowney - DE Rock Hill, SC South Pointe HS
6"6" 247 lbs 4.6 time in the 40. That's incredible size for a HS senior. Last I heard he was leaning towards Florida St.
I guess everyone following Football has Clowney going to "their area". I've been hearing 'Bama, South Cack, and Clemson are his top 3 (with Clemson making a late run after his visit last weekend)

Not that he really mattered for the upcoming draft anyway but former USC QB Mitch Mustain got arrested for dope. This kid was very highly rated out of HS. What a waste.

Quote:
Former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain was arrested late Tuesday night and held on a felony narcotics charge, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Bruce Borihanh confirmed Wednesday.

Bail was set at $30,000. Mustain has not paid bail and is still in jail, Borihanh said.

The arrest occurred shortly after 8 p.m. PT Tuesday by the West Valley division of the LAPD, and Mustain was later booked at the Van Nuys jail at 10:44 p.m.

Mustain, 22, was preparing for the upcoming NFL draft and had been on campus at USC to work out in the school's athletic facilities late last week. He started only one game in four seasons at USC, a 20-16 home loss to Notre Dame in November, after transferring from Arkansas in 2007.

The Arkansas native was one of the most sought-after high school players in history.

I never understood why Mustain didn't transfer from USC before the 2009 season when it became clear that Barkley was the future and he'd never start. He also could have transferred before the 2010 season without sitting a year because USC was banned from a bowl. He probably would have been drafted late just because of his potential but he won't be now.

I know Boise St. is still a smaller conference school but is this really the best they can do recruiting-wise? Right now they have zero recruits rated 4 or 5 stars and are ranked below my own CUSA school (UCF) in the rankings. You'd think with all the BCS games they've played in they'd do better than that.

Gotta give credit to Saban and Alabama. I don't know how they do it. Not only are they always atop the recruiting rankings, they also keep plucking many top-tier recruits from the Florida schools. Saban landed 5 recruits from the state of Florida, including two 5-star recruits from Orlando.

In case anyone was wondering why the SEC dominates college football so thoroughly you need only look at the High School recruiting rankings. Of the Top-100 rated HS football players in the nation 66 played their HS football in the 11 ex-Confederate southern states. So 66% of the top football recruits come from 11 states that makeup only 31% of the population of the U.S.

Of the remaining recruits most come from California, Ohio and Pennsylvania which can go a long way in explaining the continued success of schools like Ohio St., Penn St. and USC.

Boise never gets good recruiting classes. I can't imagine many high-end recruits want to live in Boise and play in a non-BCS conference. Their coaching staff does a great job at developing player and finding diamonds in the rough though.

agreed with that, and with the constant chip on the shoulder they can compete in those one game scenarios with the "big boys"

Top offensive line recruit Cyrus Kouandijo, who announced yesterday he was going to Auburn but never sent a letter of intent and is now reconsidering his decision, is now considering Iowa again. It had been reported Tuesday that Iowa was out of the running. Now it sounds like it's between Auburn, Alabama, and Iowa, according to Cyrus' father. He may be considering Iowa again after 2 of his high school teammates signed with Iowa, in addition to his former Iowa teammate Marcus Coker, who was a true freshmen running back for Iowa this year.

Recruit confirms mom forged signature

Floyd Raven says his mom was just trying to help when she forged his signature on a letter of intent to Mississippi on Wednesday morning.

Instead, she only caused confusion. He had decided to go to Texas A&M.

"Long story short, my mom thought she was helping me out," Raven said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday evening. "I wasn't home and she sent it in. I never told her I had changed my mind to Texas A&M. I forgive her for it. It was an honest mistake."

Once Mississippi coach Houston Nutt learned that the letter of intent was forged he declined to get into specifics about the incident. All he would say was Raven's "mom really wanted him [at Ole Miss]. Mom wanted him here in the worst way."

Raven, a highly regarded defensive back who played high school football at East St. John in Reserve, La., said the Ole Miss coaches were "very understanding" during the dilemma.

Texas A&M confirmed on Wednesday evening that Raven signed a letter of intent with the Aggies.

"I just liked the direction their program was going," Raven said. "I got close with a few of their players and it just felt like the right place for me."

I have to wonder if there wasn't come funny business going behind the scenes like there was with Cam Newton's dad shopping his son around. Maybe there was a mixup between mother and son about which school offered them a bigger payday.

I never get why big recruits pick like a random school when you have like Texas, Florida, Bama, Auburn, Oklahoma exc. and you choose like A&M or UCONN

Might be better to be the face of a small school then just another face in the crowd at one of the elites.

Nobody wants to come here where they actually have to work in class

We wouldn't even get tutors for either Gist or Gilchrist (or somebody its been far to long since that was an issue ) whose brother was a top recruit and they didn't do crap to help him with academics.

Thats why nobody comes here (and our recruiting sucks )

LOL My local morning sports talkshow host on my drive to work is Dan Sileo. He was one of the defensive stars on those great mid-80's Miami Hurricane teams coached by Jimmy Johnson. Funny thing is he ended up a Cane because he got kicked out of Maryland for dropping a guy out of his 2nd floor dorm window onto the snow.

It sounds like New Mexico, and not Iowa, is the third team top offensive line recruit Cyrus Kouandijo is considering. Cyrus said:
"I went down there (to Iowa City) and I love the football team and the coaches and everything," he said. "But the lifestyle down there, I don't think it's for me. I don't think I'd be able to thrive those three years. I don't think so."

You can tell how highly Cyrus thinks of himself when he says he'll only be in school three years. It's clear he thinks he's going to go pro after his junior year. I hope he takes school seriously and doesn't put his entire future into going pro. There's plenty of high-profile busts every year, and it's also very easy for an injury to derail a career.

It's a big decision where you go to college, especially for athletes, so I hope he takes his time and makes the right choice for him. But you're right, expecting to be gone after 3 years is ballsy.
