I thought we already had rough numbers to show that Blu Harry was outpacing Red Harry by 1.2:1 or was this the boxset?

Also, if he wants a more fair comparison, why isn't he comparing Pirates 3 to Bourne 3? Both were big summer hits and were released around the same time of year on disc. Spider-man 3 was not a great movie. Pirates 3 wasn't much better either. Bourne IMO is the best of the 3 and I'd buy it in a heartbeat if Universal would let me.

And why is Universal reporting WB numbers? Is anyone else confused by this?

Finally, this guy sure is going to have some explaining to do if the numbers come out and prove him wrong. I guess he knows that it will be a good while before that then so why not give the Red side some more FUD to hold onto over Christmas. Aye aye aye

My thoughts exactly - see above

They do actually. It appears to be an amzon exclusive though.

And ya, I totally forgot about that. Don't forget that they were giving some of their new releases away for free with players too if I'm not mistaken.

Read the feedback to the 'article'. Every one of them counters the claims made in the 'article'.

Some commentary on my part:

- Check out the shoddy reporting: at the beginning the article cites "according to Universal Studios Home Entertainment and other industry research sources" but the only other "industry research sources" cited later in the article are amazon rankings. Using amazon rankings to extrapolate data about the industry as a whole is just... ugh.

Edit: One other thing I thought was interesting was Universal releasing their own numbers for Spiderman 3 (according to them, a not very flattering 30,000). I know in the past that paidgeek has mentioned the difficulty in mentioning the number of units sold even for Sony's own titles, and that releasing numbers for titles from other studios was pretty much taboo. I wonder what paidgeek and Sony Pictures' reaction would be to Universal's Spiderman numbers.

Thoughts?
This whole thing sounds like damage control to me. They use Amazon sales rankings because that is the only place that average people can look to see how well a title is selling. If it looks like it is selling better on Amazon then it must be for the entire country, but WE know that not to be true. Yes, it looked like Potter was doing better on HD DVD on Amazon, but the Potter BD box set was selling better on amazon. As everyone on this forum knows or should know, Using Amazon as an indicator of how well a title is selling is completely wrong. It might give you a general idea, but Amazon is hardly the biggest seller of Hi Def media.

This is starting to remind me of baseball stats... what was that line from Mr. Baseball?

I think they lost a 1 off the Spidey numbers. Oh and they are talking about "high profile" titles but they ignore Pirates 160k the week before.

They can get the VS numbers just like Dave does. But since Dave already said the ratio was 1.2:1 for OoTP and 1.3:1 for the box they are blowing smoke. Rememeber as was pointed out in the artice the co-president of the HD DVD marketing group.

They have shown us how low they can go already (cyber terrorism etc.) We just need to ignore their FUD.

hd-dud end is nearing. They don't know what else to come up with

I wish that were the case. These guys have made their living off of flat out lies! Here is a plain and clear example of that. These jerks are lying to the american consumer to sell crappy players. I hate you UNIVERSAL!!!!

The Bourne box set is just for Standard DVD and should have nothing to do with any HD-DVD sales. But Spider-man selling only 30k?! Bulls***. I guessing PotC3 only sold 1k? Funny, really funny.

Think someone will find a way to ask him at CES? He'll probably be more angry than the Fox guy with the Firmware questions.

I think they are referring to Spidey's numbers day one only. I can't remember what those numbers were.

What makes me mad is they can lie like this and then no one holds their feet to the fire; except us and then they call us fanatics for doing so. I'm sick of their unchecked FUD!

I know Amazon has an exclusive offer for all 3 movies.. but it is NOT a box set. They are individual movies sold together, because amazon is doing it. So there will be no box set sale prices for the studio that is not releasing any box set or other deal.
It is also true that Spider got much more than they claimed... but this is obviously just FUD and I would just ignore it.

It's not a box set, it's a discount if you buy all three movies together.

The only Bourne Box Set is DVD only...

Damage control, that's what this is. With Bourne only selling 60,000 copies? Seems kind of pathetic for one of the most anticipated titles on HD DVD. I think we should all wait until the real numbers come out and not trust something that Universal is saying. Given this statement they made, does anyone now really thing that Universal is going to go neutral? Not likely, but if Warner were to switch to Blu exclusive, then HD DVD might as well give up. We shall see in the coming months. Given the statments by the insiders, I don't think Warner will be announcing BD exclusivity at CES. Perhaps in February or March. One could hope...

Funny that they give the SD all the special treatment with a nice box set and give the HD boys crap.
