I kind of think its good the entire program gets scrapped. Even though I despise Edsall and the probable losing or averageness he'll bring, its still good to have a fresh take on things.

Without that 2nd sentence, I was about to call you a drama queen! It may have been one of those things (like the Ravens D.C.) where he was told the writing was on the wall, he could go back home now with a job, or get fired in the next 12 months.

by the way, if you're on twitter, you HAVE to follow AJ Francis. kid is hilarious and lives on Twitter @The_Franchyze

Just curious, but why do you despise Edsall so much? He overachieved for most of his career at UCONN. He grew up a huge Maryland fan, and I have no doubt he will work very hard to bring a consistently winning team to Maryland. I'm not sure he'll do it, but you guys should at least be competitive.

This is a big surprise considering we already have a star QB (Jeffrey Godfrey)who will still only be a Sophomore next year. This kid sounds terrific but he'll have to be patient and wait his turn. This caps off what is easily UCF's best recruiting class ever.

Four-star quarterback completes UCF's recruiting class

The UCF Knights have completed their 2011 signing class with the addition of four-star quarterback DaMarcus Smith (Louisville, KY). Smith made his announcement at a press conference at Seneca High School Friday, two days after National Signing Day. Smith's announcement came as a surprise to many people because several media outlets prematurely reported that Smith would choose Louisville over UCF for his college destination. "I love the University of Louisville, all the fans and the passion, but for the next four years I'll be with the University of Central Florida," Smith said at his press conference, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Rivals.com ranked UCF the 43rd-best recruiting class in the nation on Thursday. The ranking should improve with the addition of Smith.

I didn't buy(and actually was kind of insulted this Cuse' guy said this is his dream job ) his huge MD fan shtick he did at the presser, I went to numerous Gary Williams basketball camps all kinds of UMD activities from football, lacrosse exc. this guys greatest memory was "sitting in some rain game" then when he had a choice to go to school he picked Syracuse!

Also this program already had decent seasons even some hype when we made the Orange Bowl (and got whippED ),but just like with any team that shows success or possibility of it, and just like a corporation everyone always wants growth nobody cares that you could always go 10-3 eventually somethings got to change. And Edsall doesn't show me change (obviously recruits didn't think so either).

Quote:
It was a solid class for first-year coach Randy Edsall, but nothing flashy.
Pretty much sums up him as a coach and where this program has been.

I'd rather have lost with Leach then get destroyed like Edsall did this Fiesta Bowl.

In all fairness to him he grew up in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania which is just a stone's throw from the Maryland border. It can't be much more than an hour to Maryland's main campus from Glen Rock.

I'm just saying thats my take on his "maryland love" He could have been a bigger fan then me, but I just don't buy it

Bottom line I wanted to put all the chips in the middle and see what Leach could do either blow it big, make us win, or be average like we've been... Edsall I see either average or terrible and not much else (not to mention he's boring as hell to listen to)

There is no beating that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8MEMFtlreE (unless you got me Stoops, Urban, Saban or Mac Brown )

Since signing day has just passed I went back to see how Rivals.com's past top rated HS recruits by year did and this is what I found. I took a looked at the #1 and #2 rated overall recruits nationally for the years 2002-2008. Overall the top rated recruits have a very high success rate in college, though there have been some real busts.

2002
#1 recruit - Vince Young - QB (signed with Texas) - I'd say that one worked out pretty well. All Vince Young did was lead Texas to a national championship and become one of the best college QB's of all-time. Of course we all know how that translated to the NFL...
#2 recruit - Haloti Ngata - DT (signed with Oregon) - Another guy who lived up to the hype. He was a beast in college and a consensus all-American in 2005. He's been just as good in the pros with Baltimore.

2003
#1 recruit - Ernie Sims - LB (signed with FSU) - Sims was a good, but not spectacular player for FSU. He showed a lot of improvement up until his Junior year where he leveled off. In the pros he's been ok, but not worth a 9th overall pick where he was drafted.
#2 recruit - Reggie Bush - RB (signed with USC) - Turned out to be one of the best players in NCAA history and helped lead USC to 2 national titles and a Heisman. Of course USC and Bush ended up paying the price thanks to NCAA violations in the long-run. He's been ok, but never close to a feature back in the NFL.

2004
#1 recruit - Adrian Peterson - RB (signed with Oklahoma) - Another guy who lived up to the hype. AP put up big numbers at Oklahoma despite frequent injuries and was a consensus All-American. He's been just as great in the NFL.
#2 recruit - Tedd Ginn Jr. - WR (signed with Ohio St.) - Outstanding player at Ohio St. both as a WR and return man. He was a multiple time All-American. As for the pros, not so much.

2005
#1 recruit - Derrick Williams - WR/QB/RB/DB (signed with Penn St.) - Ya, this guy really played that many positions. Though he eveneually became a WR and a very good one at that. In the pros he really hasn't done much or anything.
#2 recruit - Patrick Turner - WR (signed with USC) - This guy turned out to be a dud. Didn't come close to the hype. Best he did at USC was being their #2 receiver in 2007. In his short NFL career he's done nothing of note.

2006
#1 recruit - Percy Harvin - WR (signed with Florida) - Member of 2 national championship Gator teams, SEC freshman of the year, All-American, etc. Harvin lived up to the hype despite frequent injuries. Same deal in the pros where he's been very good with the Vikings.
#2 recruit - Andre Smith - OL (signed with Alabama) - Outstanding career at Alabama. He was All-SEC 1st Team twice and an All-American 1st Team. Hard to judge his NFL career since he's only played 2 seasons and has been frequently injured.

2007
#1 recruit - Jimmy Clausen - QB (signed with Notre Dame) - Kind of a mixed bag. He struggled early at Notre Dame but became one of the better QB's in college by his senior year. Too early to tell how he'll be in the NFL.
#2 recruit - Joe McKnight - RB (signed with USC) - Major bust. This kid supposed to be Reggie Bush 2.0 but instead just brought all Reggie Bush's rules violations with little of his talent to USC.

2008
#1 recruit - Terrelle Pryor - QB (signed with Ohio St.) - Lived up to the hype. He's been a terrific QB his last two seasons for OSU. Though he did have a rules violation, which will cost him 4 games in 2011 if he does return, which I doubt.
#2 recruit - DaQuan Bowers - DE (signed with Clemson) - Far surpassed the hype. Bowers was one of the most dominant players in college football, won the Bronko Nagurski award and may be the #1 overall pick in the 2011 draft.

thats crazy 85% are damn good college talent (I didn't think Turner or Williams were near as special as the other guys on the list)

Overall the #1 and #2 overall ranked recruits do seem to be near-locks to at least be superstars in college. If you go further down the list and include all 5-star recruits (roughly the top 20-30 players in each class the success rate is more like 50% tops.

Believe it or not Tim Tebow was only the #22 overall ranked HS recruit in the 2006 class and was ranked behind other QB's Matthew Stafford and Mitch Mustain (major bust).

And in looking at my own school's star players we're really picked off some hidden gems. Brandon Marshall was only rated 2-stars out of HS but was a star WR at UCF and in the NFL. Running Back Kevin Smith was another player rated only 2-stars, yet he became an All-American and nearly broke Barry Sanders's single-season NCAA rushing record.

Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier said Saturday he will begin visiting transfer choices Monday and has narrowed his options to Kansas State, Washington, Arizona, Miami and Montana.

Forcier said he hopes to do all of his visits next week, probably starting with Kansas State or Miami.

Forcier threw for 2,647 yards with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 20 career games.

Forcier backed up Denard Robinson last season after starting ahead of him when they were both freshmen in 2009.

Oh please Tate come play for The U. This timetable would be perfect for him, Harris will be a senior next year and it gives him a chance to battle out Morris for the starting job. Forcier would add some much needed depth to our depth chart and who knows how good he could be if he ever matures.

I think he got the shaft at Michigan he showed what a leader he was and while Robinson might have been the better athlete I felt like Tate was a far better QB and deserved the chance to grow (which of course he didn't get)

That would be a huge pick-up for Miami.

Ryan Mallett got shafted too a few years ago and look how good he ended up being at Arkansas. I don't think Michigan ever knows what they're doing with their QB's. Robinson is one of the most overrated college QB's I've ever seen.

He's a freak of an athlete, but he disappears in big games. In big time football you need a quarterback that rises to the occasion.

Not really. I'm sure it will happen eventually though. One of the big stories recently here in central FL is a rampant rumor that USF is trying to block the move for fear it will hurt their recruiting. Most of the key people at USF are refusing to comment on the story, leading most to assume it's true.

Then again with how bad the Big East has been for years now I'm starting to think it won't exactly be a massie upgrade from CUSA with football. It would definately help us in basketball recruiting though since the Big East is as good as ever there.
