They could just talk about hd dvd and not announce any movies and then at the blu press conference talk about blu and announce movies coming to blu and going blu exclusive.

I just don't see the point of WB staying neutral and extending this out. Maybe they just want to do it on their timetable instead of when a lot of people were assuming, but it's still ridiculous. The longer it stretches out the more you have to worry. Could one of the reasons they are not rushing to Blu ray be that they are still enticed by some monetary offer from the other side making their decision tough? They should know that choice could kill both formats, but who knows how these guys think. I've been buying a bunch of WB titles and this is getting frustrating.

Not that I believe this will happen, but if for some insane reason Warner went to exclusive HD-DVD it would not end the war. It would create a 50/50 split in support between Bluray and HDDVD. They would then be on equal ground. If Warner went Bluray it's a different story, it would then be 70/30 Bluray advantage and the war would probably be over.

It would a bigger stab in the back if Warner decided to go HD-DVD exlcusive than when Paramount did. I hope this doesn't happen. I hope Warner looks at the hard numbers and sees that Blu-ray is the path to go.

Why don't you buy Warner Home Video and then you could do it your way?

But thats the point, WB's timetable is to get things sorted by Q4 '08, by which time the market will be heavily in Blurays favour anyhow.

Some on here are looking for things to be sorted in the next few weeks.

The article means nothing. They are doing both conferences. Nothing to do with picking sides or making an annoucement at this point.

Maybe they thought it'd be nice to announce it in person.

WB: "Hey H.D. D.V.D. folks. We decided to drop your format. We're going to the Blu-ray conference now to announce exclusivity, but I thought I'd let you know first. So long!"

(exit, stage left)

I actually believe they will end their neutral stance early in 2008, perhaps as early as CES. There is simply way too much at stake and they control a huge catalog of films. The industry, manufacturer and retailer pressure must be overwhelming to go with Blu-ray exclusively..

Using my official Zoltar Crystal Ball, I see...

Since the hd-dvd dog and pony show is a day sooner (I believe I read that here), a low level distribution manager with WB will say when they are hounded during that event they are going to continue to produce hd-dvd disc's for the foreseeable future.

The next day, at the blu shin-dig, a senior VP or higher will announce after the first quarter they are going exclusively blu. When questioned on their previous days statement they will simply reply any one quarter is their foreseeable future.

It is a real shame that so many blufans are paying for paramount/dreamworks greed. If they had of stayed with blu the war would be over. I have no respect for them now and seeing startrek on only hddvd made my stomach turn. I still can't believe matrix is a no show on blu.

I read the story and According to my source and As far as we know that does not sound like it will happen but it might. Cant we get Warner to openly say that they will be present at the Blu-Ray booth, I wish they would just put this to rest and go Blu, we have the sales and they dont.

Ok, the way I see it (which is only my predictions), here are the possible scenarios

1- Warner attends both HD DVD conference and Blu Ray conference. Business goes on as usual, says there is no plan to go exclusive atm, anounces titles on both formats, yaddi yadda.
70% chance

2 - Warner cancels their HD DVD appearance the night before, and at the BDA press conference opening the CES, they anounce that they are going exclusive Blu Ray and anounce the road map to drop HD DVD over the next 1-2 months.
15% chances

3 - Warner does not cancel their HD DVD appearance, but still anounce their going exclusive at the BDA press event. At the HD DVD forum, they anounce that they will continue to support current orders until <date>, will continue to provide stocks to allow curetn orders by retails to be fulfilled until <date> and will also put in place a proream to exchange HD DVD s ordered since <date> up to <date> to be exchanged for a Blu Ray equivalent up to <date>.
10% chance

4 - Warner cancels their BDA appearances, and anounce going Red exclusive at the HD DVD event.
5 % chance

How about Warner announcing nothing, or something about looking at Q5 results before deciding, and then going Blu exclusive a few months in?

It seems everything is centered around CES, as if that is the only locale and time for a decision or an announcement.

Because if you give your word and announce titles at CES for both formats, it seems contradictory to dump one or the other a month or two months later. In future business you wouldn't believe another word they'd say. WB at least seem to have some morals and business sense.

judging by what you posted I would say that the order of your selections would be more like:

1)70%
3)15%
2)10%
4)5%

I think that there would be more of a chance of Warner announcing an exclusive deal while still being civil than actually dumping the other side altogether.

According to my source at Warner, they will also be attending a Blu-Ray conference.
Sounds good. So, can we have a quote from your source?

Quote:
And Warner will likely participate in the presentations by HD DVD and Blu-ray.
I see. Likely attend? I think my neigbours cat could have told me that.

There is nothing of substance in this piece of fluff and I wouldn't try starting a thread on it over at HDD. You won't live long.
