KJack

Can you quell this silly FUD from the king fudsters that a big name CE BD manufacturer is going to make a hddvd or dual format player? Also, whats the ratio of new blu to hddvd players coming?

I've never bought into the Disney thing, but I have to admit the New Line thing scared me. It's like we've always said, "where there's smoke, there's fire."

Hopefully the fire is just from rdjam's a** instead of anyplace substantial.

Sharp have stated their intentions to become the world's largest Blu-ray player manufacturers by the end of next year.

Pioneer are a high-end consumer brand, what the hell would they be doing producing anything to do with HD DVD.

The only candidate so far is Denon, but that player will probably only be available in the US and Canada. They have too much sense to bother localising this for all of the different European countries or Japan. Even then that is only because they have announced a Blu only player (which so far isn't released, I don't think?).
I thought Denon was even more high-end than Pioneer? Wouldn't the Onkyo debacle and the falling prices of HD DVD get them cold feet ?

It is interesting that the hd bloggers (especially rdjam and kosty) have resorted to spewing lies, misinformation and starting unfounded rumors.

It certainly looks like a desperate plea to stave off impending doom.
If they can drum up enough fear and uncertainty, get a few to adopt and keep a few more away from blu....well, they just have to do everything they can to keep the curtain from falling.

I caught them all having a circle jerk over some random indie presser in europe (hd is getting killed in europe !) doing an interview and talking about how much more econicable hd dvd lines were over blu ray. Replication costs fear all over again.

The last time there was a big orgy among them over the replication costs I came back with actual qoutes from indies and showed almost no difference in price in anything but the bd50 which hd has no competing product currently.

So I referenced that earlier thread and of course the thread must have erupted because I come back and its gone lol!

They do not care, because most of their loyal are drooling idiots.
They play the odds and throw something out there, if it comes true then they are heroes and if it does not come true they move on to the next one and chalk it up to "things beyond their control".
Their track records are not very good.

I wouldn't mind, but these very same guys then go on to lambast, and try to discredit, true insiders!

I particularly like how they claim BD exclusive studios HAVE to go dual format, even exclusive to HD-DVD, due to astronomical BD50 costs, but Universal and Paramount have no need to take a chunk of the larger BD pie, and are quite happy to absorb the costs of what are likely to be expensive TL51's, that's if they even hit the market!

You couldn't make it up.
Hehe according to at least one guy on HDDigest, Penton is a guy working at Best Buy lol.

Speaking of Best Buy ...any chance they will go Blu-ray exclusive after this year? From Penton's latest hint of a new development and Best Buy's odd sale(3 for 2) on ALL HD DVD titles during the last two shopping days of Christmas, I would be remiss to not voice this hunch. Added to this, there are tons of anecdotal reports of Best Buy's increasingly blu presence with their store displays and additional shelf space for Blu-ray titles.

Not a single sliver of a fraction of a chance until this thing is completely over.
It is a marketing move by hd , no more and no less.
(oddly enough blu movies at amazon will usually come out to less than or the same as two movies at Best Buy after taxes.)

Guys I want to give you a heads-up on something because I don’t want it to be misinterpreted as a confirmation nor a repudiation of a rumor of a certain studio going Blu-ray exclusive. It has absolutely nothing to do with the format war, whatsoever. It’s simply a career move for a well-respected individual at a Presidential level.

I suspect some news outlet will run a short piece on it sometime around New Year’s Day but, as of now, Dec. 24 at 3:10 p.m. P.S.T. this has not been mentioned by any of the major news outlets and definitely not by any pseudo studio insiders on any forum.

So, please Blu-ray forum members don’t use this upcoming news as some sort of vehicle to promote the rumor of WB going Blu-ray exclusive. I want to be Crystal Clear about this. It would be discourteous to do so to the individual as well as the two organizations involved. It is just a fine man leaving one fine studio to advance his career in another fine studio and any studio would be glad to have him spearheading their 4K Digital Cinema movement as well as other things. Again, it has nothing to do with the format war.

P.S.
Now don’t be surprised if some blogger or pseudo studio insider picks up on whom I talking about and posts it as breaking insider news on some fringe forum-- as everybody apparently reads our little Blu piece of heaven.

Actually, sj001 is technically correct as the coyote is also known as the “prairie wolf”.

Somehow, I can't see Penton feeding rdjam or any other HD-DVD "Insider" to his girls. He carried GRILLED STEAKS up a hill for them! He's not gonna feed them junk food!

Here is a clue:
Quote:
Among the clatter of chatter, plates, and silverware in the Warner Bros. executive commissary, Chris Cookson, the company's president of technical operations, and Ned Price, vice president of mastering, explain the studio's approach to mastering high-def discs.

Asked and answered two months ago. This is a non-issue.
