Does that diminish the quality of the blu-ray at all? I've read about how early blu-rays aren't as good (see the first version of Memento vs. the new release, out today). Supposedly, early BR's don't have the same capacity to put a high quality image on a disk that they do today or something... so does the flipper/combo disk diminish anything relating to quality?

Not really. One side is a dual layered Blu-ray, and the other is a dual layered DVD. Of course, there are a few people who might have had some bad experiences with flipper discs, and proceeded to raise hell about them even before they had tried any of Universal's discs, but I haven't read about faulty discs anywhere.

Isn't flipper a dolphin? Also, let's not forget - let's not forget, Dude - that keeping wildlife, an amphibious mammal, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city - that aint legal either.

STFU, Donnie!

Anyway, I would like this on Blu-ray, as it's one of my favorite movies.

I don't like flipper discs. It's too easy to smudge one side of the disc while handling the other. And take into account those "4 Film Favorites" DVDs you see nowadays. They are two flipper discs that come in a standard DVD case with the "two-disc" insert. The insert slams against Side B of Disc 2.

I much rather prefer everything go on one-sided discs. It's a much better market for distributors to put it out that way anyway. "2-Disc Special Edition" sounds better than "Single-Disc with Features on Side B Edition."
