Well, I got my new Onkyo in the mail yesterday and I was super excited to try it out. I went to the local supply store, bought 50 ft of speaker cable and banana plugs to make my DIY cables.

Made the cables...tore out my old stuff...connected it...and everything works! I was really blown away how far AVR's have come in the last 5 years. It sounds incredible! It's just perfect for us.

The seating will arrive this Monday, then I'll update the gallery w/ new pics. Next up, time to build the projector screen, get that ready, then I'll be ready to buy a projector. I want everything in place before I get it, so that night I can hook it up and enjoy

I know it's not up the level of others, but I sure do enjoy it. I will be calibrating it this weekend and checking out lossless on some of my favorite movies.

My wife was sitting there watching the Ricky Gervais show, telling me things like "do we really need this?" and "it's funny watching you scramble around making cables and hooking things up"

Now, I know if she were in charge of the TV viewing, we'd still have my old 27" RCA CRT.

I told her "getting this is pivotal for the projector, all inputs are routed to the AVR and the one output to the projector, without this AVR it couldn't happen easily"

Her answer

Glad to see you guys have the same issue at home!

Well, I fired up the Metallica bluray of the Big 4 set last night. Cranked it up and the AVR really impressed me.

I can see myself upgrading the front 3 (soundstage) in the future, but I really like my low profile klipsch surrounds.

Seats come Monday! It's a shame I'll be away on business when they arrive. I won't be able to check them out till Thursday, and that night I think we are going to try to watch Avatar.

Default Seating arrived today!

Got a photo emailed to me from my wife...too bad I'm on business travel right now, otherwise I'd be watching movies in my new seats with my new Onkyo.

Check em out... Better photos later...and ultimately I'll update my photo gallery

Congrats! They look great. I hate when I get things while on business travel, too. I try to coordinate deliveries around those dates, though.

Nice seating! Looks like you have room for another row with a riser .

Thanks guys! Here is another shot I snagged off of our smug mug site.

I totally want another row...but I've been thinking about building a hockey themed bar behind the seating with bar seats to separate the big basement room I have. That way you could watch something at the bar at a few bar seats or sit in the theater seats....what do you guys think?

I also need help in finding things that 'tie the room together'
if you know what I mean. I like a clean looking room, but now that I see the photos, it seems barren.

I like the bar/bar stool idea. If it is meant as more an entertaining room than a movie watching room, I would go the bar route.

Hey Ryan, the seating is excellent. I also noticed that you may have the same curtains as me.

Thanks Mike!

Yeah the curtains are Robert Eclipse black out curtains. I'm not sure who recommended them to me, probably Sean MF or Fors or Hammie? One of the gurus in the galleries thread. BTW, they are awesome.

I've been looking for seats for about 18 months now on and off. I finally found the set (locally) that we both wanted. I spent lots of time debating them...unlike my new AVR which took me just a few days

Long day in meetings, thank goodness for breaks.

No rug on rug action. I really need to get my posters and frames and then see how the room looks. It's a big area and I'm hoping it'll make it feel more personalized.

I was looking up something 'else' And I'd love to get these, but the wife probably wouldn't go for it

^ My favorite one is the one of the Rabit up close. Very cool.

We bought some animation cells that were framed from movies...one was Alice in Wonderland. We also have the dancing WB frog and a pic of Goofy fishing. I could use those, but the feel of them is more cartoony and kiddie and I'm going for cool or edgy.

I really like the cowboy bebop poster

[Show spoiler]

We'll see...the WAF will come into play even though this is my hangout...yet I have no say upstairs?
