Thumbs up

Thanks, very interesting information Darin.

I wonder what prompts the "can't make enough" claims. Is it blind assumptions based on their "price is king" philosophy or is it simply hype and spin?

i vote hype and spin. Same as nintendo. make everyone think your product is popular by making it in short supplky. Problem is the supply wasnt short enough. worked wonders for the Wii!

Well, my personal experiences at BB has shown that BR stand alones were far out-selling their HD-DVD counterparts in the local area best buys. I went to a BB twice and saw the same stack of untouched HD-DVD players collecting dust (right in the center mind you, and not ONE person was looking, whereas the PS3 had a gathering around it, and the Blu standalones had 1 or 2 people looking and checking out the demo). I need to rain on this a bit.

Although the numbers are interesting, they really mean nothing until we know the total units in stock for those players. Obviously if there were 2000 HD-DVD machines, and only 200 Blu machines the numbers would be heavily weighted in HD-DVD's favor. The vice versa is true however, and my own personal exp at best buy's show me this is the case and Blu was dominating (especially the PS3 sales).

Just trying to cover all bases though Darin. I looked myself at the local best buy stores online and saw the same type of information. I even looked at circuit city, in which some where sold out, or back ordered. If you have the total units in store, these numbers would be much better for proof positive as to how Blu/HD sold during the Christmas season.

My Best Buy had two stacks before Christmas - one of HD-A30 and one of BDP-S300 on pallets. Probably 20 or so on each stack. Today there are 2 BR players left and about 15 Toshibas.

Why would they stock so many of the add-ons? Seems like they were hoping for a big run on those...
