More Prometheus details: aliens without the human DNA?
UK comic blog site Bleeding Cool had a chance to ask an insider in the Prometheus production team about the project. The source is not revealed for obvious reasons, but Bleeding Cool is quite a reliable source enough.

The rumors we've been hearing lately from Sky were not entirely denied by this source, but there's some explanation, and it doesn't sound bad at all.

Quite simply: it has the Alien aliens in it. The catch, though, is that you might not recognise them – at least, not at first.

Remember how the alien took on canine qualities after gestating in a dog? You may even suppose that the first film’s alien was so recognisably humanoid because it had grown in a human. The same applies here: generation by generation, the creature mutates. As Prometheus begins, the xenomorph is not too recognisable. Sure, it has that alien DNA that Scott and Fassbender teasingly referred to, but it’s missing… well, it’s missing human DNA. Or dog DNA.

All you have to do is imagine how it might look if it were to mix DNA with another alien species… and I think we’re starting to work it all out.

We've previously heard rumors that Prometheus will borrow some ideas from another one of the Alien sequels, and with this news it pretty much sounds like the ideas are coming from Alien 3 in which the traits of the Alien resembles it's host.
Imagine aliens coming from a 6ft human host are about 7ft-8ft tall, but what if they're coming from an 8ft tall Space Jockey? Didn't Sky's source say Prometheus will involve huge aliens?

Bleeding Cool's source also revealed that the story will in part take place on a planet that has just been terraformed to create an environment in which a "bioweapon" can live. But the source would not reveal if said "bioweapon" is the xenomorph alien.

Also, the source reveals that the movie may not be called Prometheus in the end after all.

I did ask if the film is really going to be called Prometheus. The answer? “Maybe not. Though they are calling it that for a reason.”

Is it because there's a terraforming ship involved named Prometheus, perhaps?

When asked about the news Sky revealed earlier this week, regarding an 8ft animatronic Space Jockey being developed at Pinewood Studios, their source seemed a little ambiguous.

Sadly, I was not able to confirm the rumoured use of an 8-foot animatronic Space Jockey, but the way I was told “there’s nothing we’re calling a space jockey here” just led me to believe, perhaps erroneously, that it would be the same character, or at least species, but with a new name. On past information, that name would seem to be “The Engineer”, but I may be getting ahead of myself to join those particular dots so readily when their sources aren’t the same.

Anyway. The only thing I’m completely sure of here is that Prometheus does indeed take place in the same universe as Alien, and in this universe there’s a big terraforming operation going on, somehow related to the classic Giger xenomorph.

So there we go. A few more rumors to answer our questions, and a few more rumors to help us ask even more questions.
One thing that's for sure is that although this project started as a prequel to Alien, then became a non-prequel to Alien, it is still somehow connected to the Alien universe.

Idris Elba, Sean Harris And Kate Dickie Join The Prometheus Cast

Ridley Scott is trying desperately to keep the plot of his upcoming sci-fi film Prometheus under wraps, but apparently not so much that he's unwilling to talk to the press over in the UK. Chatting up The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye, Scott both emphasized how secretive the project is-- actors reading the script have to do it supervised in Scott's office-- and revealed three new cast members who have signed on: Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie.

All three actors hail from the UK, but Elba is the likeliest to be known in the States, having played both The Wire's Stringer Bell and The Office's Charles Minor. Harris appeared in all three installments of the UK crime drama The Red Riding Trilogy, in addition to Harry Brown and the upcoming Brighton Rock. Dickie appeared in Andrea Arnold's indie film Red Road, but has a much smaller list of credits than either of her other new co-stars. It goes without saying that Scott didn't reveal which roles they'll be playing, but they'll fit somehow into a cast that already includes Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace. Shooting starts in three weeks in time to meet the scheduled release date of June 8, 2012.

I, Robot: Michael Fassbender Confirms He’ll Be Playing An Android In ‘Prometheus’
While speculation runs irritatingly rampant about “Prometheus” and what exactly from “Alien” will appear in this not-a-prequel to the film, Michael Fassbender has finally confirmed a long swirling rumor about who he will play in the film that is keeping plot and character details very, very close close to the chest.

In an interview with EW when asked directly if he would be playing an android in the film he stated, “I don’t know what I can say!” nodded affirmatively adding, “I don’t want to get into trouble…” Yeah, that’s how secretive Ridley Scott wants to be about this forthcoming film.

Again asked about the connections between “Alien” and “Prometheus,” Fassbender once again said a variation of the same statement he’s been making for the past while. Scrutinize away: “It’s a different story, but it’s also got the traditional roots. ‘Alien’ fans will recognize things in it. It’s not ignoring ‘Alien,’ there’s still a link to that world. But it’s a different story. It’s definitely connected, though.” Got all that. It’s connected, but it isn’t, but it is.

So what more do we know? Fassbender is an android so throw that in a pot, stir and we’re sure more rumors will start cropping up. In the meantime in more solid news, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie were announced as the latest additions to the cast, though of course, their roles were not specified. They join Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron in the film. Once Fassbender finishes up “Shame” with Carey Mulligan that he’s currently shooting with “Hunger” director Steve McQueen in New York, he’ll fly to London and head to Pinewood were production is mounting for “Prometheus.” The film will hit theaters on June 8, 2012.

Baz Bambigoye at UK newspaper The Daily Mail had a chance to catch up with Ridley Scott over cocktails at a pre-Oscar tribute party.

When asked about the Prometheus storyline Ridley was as coy as always.

"It’s the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It’s not a small film," Ridley joked.
"I’m using the giant James Bond 007 stage at Pinewood and six other sound stages to film it," he added.
Prometheus, Ridley declared, was not — as some have suggested — a prequel to his classic sci-fi shocker Alien. But he refused to divulge more.
Indeed, one of his actors told me that he could recite the entire screenplay to me — but then he’d have to wrestle me to the ground and, this was related in the nicest possible way, ‘kill me’.

Apparently Ridley Scott is doing all he can to keep the Prometheus script from being leaked to the internet, as is becoming quite common these days, and is going to great lengths to make sure none of the cast reveal anything.

[The actors] not only had to sign secrecy clauses, but were only allowed to read the story if they visited Ridley’s production office. (One exception was made, when a security courier flew to an actor’s foreign location and stood guard for two hours while the screenplay was perused.)
‘I was insistent that the script not leak onto the internet, where it gets dissected out of context, which spoils it for everyone,’ Ridley told me during cocktails at a pre-Oscar tribute to Harvey Weinstein, hosted by Dior at the Chateau Marmont on Sunset Boulevard.

Filming starts in three weeks at Pinewood Studios, where Sir Ridley is not only using the enormous 007 Stage but an additional six more sound stages.

I just want a straight answer: in the Alien universe or not.

Ridley Talks Prometheus

Alien Prequel News | Posted by Corporal Hicks on 25 Feb 2011 23:25 GMT

Following on from the previous news report, Daily Mail also talked to Ridley Scott and he’s only gone and made things even more confusing:

“Prometheus, Ridley declared, was not — as some have suggested — a prequel to his classic sci-fi shocker Alien. But he refused to divulge more.”

He also mentions production will start on Prometheus in 3 weeks and that he is really trying to keep the film in complete secrecy. “I was insistent that the script not leak onto the internet, where it gets dissected out of context, which spoils it for everyone.”

In regards to an unspecified cast member the article said: “Indeed, one of his actors told me that he could recite the entire screenplay to me — but then he’d have to wrestle me to the ground and, this was related in the nicest possible way, ‘kill me.”

Check out the Daily Mail website for more information. Scroll down to This sci-fi’s top secret and read on.

I was excited about the casting news with Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, but the most recent list of additional 3 more actors who I have never heard of just don't get me excited, who knows, maybe they are really good but I was hopping for at least some familiar faces.

Anyone wondering why Almaganated Dynamic Incorporated is not doing the effects for Prometheus? You'd think Tom Woodruf and Alec would be doing this one too since they've been part of Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection

Because fans have reacted to them negatively since 1991, and Giger does not like them. Thank god they're not involved.

Actually, I prefer a film with lesser known actors because it helps me focus more on the characters and the story and less on the actor's performances. For example, casting someone like Angelina Jolie would ruin Prometheus for me as I'd be too busy wondering "what the hell is Lara Croft doing on a spaceship?" Fortunately, I haven't seen much of Charlize Theron to be concerned about her casting.

Also, anything that Scott can do to distance himself from Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection (such as ditching ADI) is a good thing.

Me too. It gives you a sense that you are watching people in a real situation rather than actors playing out a script.

I wonder who is going to survive Prometheus, I mean, we know Noomi is the lead role, but Charlize may not sign up for a role that would potentially die in the movie, and one of the little known actors is Elizabeth Shaw's love interest. Maybe this will be the first 'alien' prequel/sequel that no one dies lol.. 6 cast member? This is it? Well, Alien had 7.

How can we tell, we don't know who they are playing, all we know is Fassbender will be an android (and androids always come of worst off in these films)

Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw - Scientist
Charlize Theron as Vickers - a Trucker
Michael Fassbender - Android - who knows, maybe works for Wayland
it was rumored that one of the male actors from the rest of the list will be Elizabeth's love interest.

Idris Elba is a great actor who is pretty well known, he was on The Wire, The Office (US), he was in Rocknrolla, The Losers, and is in the upcoming Thor movie. i think hes a fantastic addition to the cast.

By the by, Prometheus was 'announced' to be filming in my back garden -well, country- in the Highlands of Scotland:

Quote:
Filming Locations For Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS??

Merrick here...

...with two reports from AICN readers who wrote in to discuss media reports about location filming for the ALIEN-related Ridley Scott project PROMETHEUS.

First up, this message from James...
...haven't noticed this mentioned on the site and thought it was worth sending in.

It's been reported here in Scotland this morning that Ridley Scott is set to film the some of Alien prequel here. Because it's been reported in the Scottish versions of the newspapers The Daily Express and The Daily Star the story doesn't appear on their websites.

Here are the prominent quotes from the article.....

"ALIENS are to invade the Highlands - after secret plans were hatched to film a prequel to the sci-fiblockbuster trilogy in Scotland.

Location scouts for the long-awaited movie, with original Alien director Ridley Scott in charge, have already visited Inverness and Fort William."

"All cast members had to sign secrecy clauses and were made to read the script in Ridley Scott's Hollywood office. And when Kate Dickie, 39, needed to see the screenplay in Glasgow a security courier flew to Scotland and stood guard over her for two hours.

But the cat was let out of the bag when the film-makers asked about accommodation in Inverness and surrounding towns during August.

They are looking for rooms to sleep a cast and crew of at least 150 people.

While other mountainous parts of Europe have also been considered, the Scottish Highlands backdrop is favoured because it fits the new film's central theme of "grand mythology and universe" in which this original story takes place.

Mediacom, whose film travel and accommodation office is based at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, would confirm only that a "large feature film" was due to shoot in the Highlands from early August until September, then elsewhere in Europe in October and November."

We also received this note from William Wallace...

Thought you might be interested in some breaking news about Ridley Scott's Prometheus.
The Scottish Daily Express reported today that Inverness or Fort William in the Scottish Highlands will be the production base for an August and September shoot. According to the article, other mountainous parts of Europe had been considered but the Scottish Highlands best suited the film's theme of "grand mythology and the universe" (the relative proximity to Pinewood Studios in England where the rest of the film is shooting wouldn't have hurt either).

The dramatic and beautiful Highland landscape, familiar to anyone who has seen Braveheart or a Harry Potter film, may seem like a strange choice for an alien planet but let's not forget that Kubrick managed to make the Scottish island of Harris double for the surface of Jupiter in 2001: A Space Odyssey! My feeling is they're probably looking at filming somewhere like Rannoch Moor, which has a rather bleak and otherworldly aspect (I've attached a couple of photos).

This is just one more factor in what's shaping up to be one of the most fascinating of upcoming films. One thing's for certain, Prometheus is going to be a very different animal from the rest of the Alien franchise.

William also sent some photos of the locations being discussed. Magnificent. This setting really speaks to me (and not just because they appear to be filming an ALIEN movie there..)

'Prometheus' Star Noomi Rapace Talks Character Details, 'Alien' Connection
Rapace says her character is 'very much her own,' despite sharing similarities to Sigourney Weaver's Ripley.

Despite spin that "Prometheus," Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi flick that returns the director to his "Alien" roots, is not a prequel to the franchise he helped launch in 1979, some of the stars of the new film apparently beg to differ. Actor Michael Fassbender told us last month that the new movie shares "a definite connecting vein" with the previous films.

And now "Prometheus" co-star Noomi Rapace has seconded that assessment. When MTV News recently asked the Swedish actress about the definitive "Alien" connection, she answered, simply, "Yeah, yeah."

Yet Rapace emphasized that her character, a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw, is not some knock off of Sigourney Weaver's Ripley — the take-no-crap hero of the original "Alien" movies.

"She's definitely her own," Rapace said of Shaw. "She's a scientist and she's very bright and she's a believer. They have some similarities, but she's very much her own. I don't think people will compare [her] so much to Ripley when they see her. Ripley was a hero for me."

MTV News spoke with Rapace in January on the set of "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," a film that will mark a sort of Hollywood coming-out party for the star of the Swedish-language "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" films. After finishing up work on "Sherlock," Rapace was anticipating beginning "Prometheus" in March for a shoot that could run into the early fall, ahead of a March 9, 2012, theatrical release. Before then, however, she and Scott have work to do in simply developing the character of Shaw.

"I have many ideas and he has many ideas, and now we try to find her," the actress told us. "I will step into her shoes in March and be here for six months, so it's quite a long shoot."

Rafe Spall joins Prometheus cast
UK newspaper The Daily Mail reports today that British actor Rafe Spall has joined the cast of Prometheus.

Spall has previously played smaller parts in movies such as Ridley Scott's light hearted drama A Good Year, and comedies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

He'll next be seen playing William Shakespeare in Roland Emmerich's political thriller Anonymous. There's currently no information regarding Spall's character in Prometheus.

The Daily Mail also adds an interesting little piece of news about what to expect regarding the creatures in Prometheus:

Ridley’s movie is about gods and monsters and, contrary to the director’s claim (a smokescreen) that it’s not an Alien prequel, I hear the complete opposite. I’m told a monster is being developed right now that is so terrifying it’s scaring the designers! Anyway, we shall see.

I love seeing all the interviews with the cast where they keep going "Yeah, it's definitely connected to Alien." but Ridley keeps going "No! Its definitely its own thing. Not really related to it..." It's definitely related to it, so Ridley might as well come out and say it. It may not be a direct prequel, but its definitely in the Alien universe. I can't wait to see it.
