I'm sure the numbers will be here on Friday. I really hope Warner goes solely Blu in '08 because they are the reason why this war is still dragging on so long.

In my opinion they seem to be favouring more red than Blu.

Exactly. Anyone I know that is in the market for HD movies knows Blu-Ray is the way to go. All the news is about how Blu-Ray is winning. I personally feel Blu-Ray's sales lead will actually increase post-Christmas. Yet, somehow, the HD-DVD fanboys have been set for the last few months that those hundred thousand or so HD-DVD players that sold @ sub-$200 in October-December have been sitting under a Christmas tree. When opened, they will supposedly unleash the "wrath" on Dec. 26 and beyond. Unfortunately, HP doing so well on the Amazon charts it gives them the confidence to spread their crap this week. They should know from the past that HD-DVD doing well on Amazon doesn't translate, but they can't resist.

I swear, all the HD-DVD fanboys seem to be missing a few good chromosomes, and it sucks so many people buy into their crap and run back here screaming for comforting and reassurance.

All they said was they think Blu would lose this week, not that it would make any difference. Maybe slightly pessimistic for the week, but hardly fair to call it a Chicken Little reaction.

There was no OMG WE LOSE 1!!! It was just a prediction.

Blu-ray is outselling HD with Harry Potter on Amazon.

You sign in and then on the lower right of the form, you see "contact us." You do not have to place an order number in there, you can just comment.
Thanks for the heads up, I chose Placing an order for my issue and here is what I wrote:

Quote:
Hi, I see you are having all the Harry Potter's on hd-dvd on sale with a buy one get one free. I was wondering if you were going to offer the same opportunity to us Amazon Customers who own Blu-Ray players or PS3 Blu-Ray Players. I would like to order the Harry Potter films on blu-ray, but would like to see them included in a buy one get one free much like your current sale in the lesser selling format. hd-dvd's for $10 (inclusive of the sale) seems very inexpensive and Blu-Ray owners should have the same opportunity to buy the same movies on Blu-Ray format, lest we go to Best Buy or Circuit City to buy them instead of Amazon. Please consider this.
Thank You,
Joe
I'll let you all know if I get a response. I also recommend you all sending them a note, especially if you tell them you are willing to buy somewhere else.

Joe

I work for a smaller local electronics store, and we saw about the same thing. We order blu players by the pallet (50 at a time or so) and DUDs come 2 or 3 at a time.

Does anyone else find it pathetic that some people feel the need to PM Penton-Man, or post in the Insiders Thread, every friggin week there is a new HD DVD sale or some @sshole named 'Lotus', 'Kosty', 'rdjam', 'hdnow', etc posting MORE RUMORS?

Grow up people. Businesses do not make decisions overnight based on one sale or some other bullsh!t. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if you need constant reassurance with regard to this format war, then you have no business being in it at this stage in the game.

I truly believe that within the next 2-4 months, clarity will be provided...

Actually right now Harry Potter is selling better on HD DVD on all discs except the 5 disc set.

http://www.blu-crew.com/WarnerWars.php

But then I don't know if there information is that accurate. After all they have the disc "Best of Blu-Ray, Volume Three" at a higher rank for HD DVD.
HUH????

i know. seriously, does Penton tell you guys more in PMs than he does in this thread. I highly doubt it. I have a feeling Penton's inbox gets flooded with crap like this.

"Dear Mr. Penton Man Insider Sir,

I am very, very afraid of my purchase. Only 95% of CE manufacturers, 70% of movie studios and 75% of the general HD market support blu-ray. I think Warner might be going HD DVD exclusive because of these numbers. Please reassure me I made the right choice. Please coddle me and tell me that it'll all be okay.

Two guys called rdjam and lee stewart told me that fox, mgm, and disney are all jumping to hd dvd. Is this true? They seem like insiders to me. Please tell me that they are wrong, because right now I'm really confused weather or not to believe what you say or what rdjam says.

Also, what's going on with blu-ray losing the capacity advantage. TL51 is coming out really soon (Cars is to be the first TL51) from what I hear. How can blu-ray stand up to a whole extra gigabyte on HD DVD. Despite what many say about it not working, I have heard a lot of people say that all is needed is a firmware update for this to work. Aren't studios going to jump to HD DVD because of this?

Thanks"

Glanced through the last few pages and didn't see the Rentrak numbers posted, so thought I'd pop in with them -

Quote:
Rentrak* Top 10 Blu-ray and HD DVD for w/e 12/23/07:

Blu-ray
1 THE SIMPSONS MOVIE (FOX, $39.98)
2 PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END (DIS, $34.99)
3 HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (WB, $35.99)
4 SUPERBAD (SONY, $43.95)
5 HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 (DIS, $34.99)
6 BLADE RUNNER: THE COMPLETE COLLECTOR'S EDITION (WB, $39.99)
7 LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD (FOX, $39.98)
8 300 (WB, $34.99)
9 RATATOUILLE (DIS, $34.99)
10 PLANET EARTH: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION (BBC/WB, $99.98)

HD DVD
1 THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (UNI, $39.98)
2 BLADE RUNNER: THE COMPLETE COLLECTOR'S EDITION (WB, $39.99)
3 HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (WB, $35.99)
4 TRANSFORMERS (DW/PAR, $39.99)
5 PLANET EARTH: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION (BBC/WB, $99.98)
6 BALLS OF FURY (UNI, $39.98)
7 STARDUST (PAR, $39.99)
8 HARRY POTTER: 1-5 LIMITED EDITION GIFTSET (WB, $149.99)
9 THE BOURNE SUPREMACY (UNI, $34.99)
10 300 (WB, $39.99)
What's awesome, is that knowing that Blade Runner very likely sold better on Blu, yet had 5 movies selling better, while on HD-DVD it came in second...that seems to me to imply basicly that Blu-ray just totally dominated that week. (As if anyone should have had any doubt.)

No-no, just used your post b/c you copied in Penton's post where he was responding to the fruitcakes who keep PM'ing him needing reassurance.

Only if you've been PM'ing him would it apply to you...

Sure dude? I just checked, and at the present time Potter on HD has spots 1-4, as well as lots of titles in the top 50, which is new.

Course, post-Christmas sales volume drops off significantly, so if you were to want to "fudge" the numbers in your dramatically in your favor for a given week, throwing out a massive BOGO immediately after Christmas would be your best bet. Nice trick for a little uptick the last week of the year to make it appear as though the month wasn't as bad for you as it actually was.

I have a suggestion...could you guys that run this site have maybe a simple "numbers" box on the home paige that shows each weeks numbers as they come out you could just update it? I like to read posts dont get me wrong but wouldnt it be nice to just have to look at the front paige to see the weekly numbers if your in a hurry instead of having to go through a ton of posts to find them. Again, Im not complaining just making a suggestion.

LOL! No, no; no PMing Penton-man for reassurance from here. I just keep an eye on the insiders thread for new info, and unfortunately these things keep popping up.

What I'm wondering is what are all of the Chicken Littles going to cry about once we have Warner? My guess will be "when is Universal going neutral? We can't win this war without Universal!"... {SIGH} Sad, but I think I'm pretty much dead-on here...
