I love a good depressing film, and the ending kept me guessing.
What food would it be?

To me it had a

vibe (see what I did there). I felt like sh!t afterwards -- so that's always good. But boy was it hard to stay seated while seeing a guy in a box for what seemed like days to me. I would never buy it, but I'm glad I watched it - zero re-watch value for me. 3/5 IMHO.

Eden Lake

DVD

Acting was very good. Score was mature for a horror flick. Some really tastey camera work. Directing was solid.

The rest? Cliche torture and protagonists who keep making poor decisions in order to keep the story moving. Lame predictable ending.

Kelly Reilly is really cute though.

2.5/5

Thanks for the explanation definitely need to watch this again soon.
[Show spoiler]I thought the mood and tempo of the film as excellent but at first the end just threw me for a loop, probably because I really like the "samurai" and did not want him to go out like that.

I have Army of Shadows just have not found the time to watch it yet but I saw some of your comments regarding the film and they are very astute. I am looking forward to viewing it, especially if it is as well made as Le Samourai.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Once again a movie that I enjoy immensly and that gets not that good reviews critically made by Zack Snider.
From now one I will watch and be 100% sure that I will enjoy all his movies, I just like his style of directing.

As for the movie, its everything a kid could ask for, but I found joys for myself as well. The very concept of the movie was arousing and epic. This translated very well into a movie that feels very magical, with great story and jaw dropping visuals.

I liked all characters, especially the big warrior who liked to sing.

This movie isnt for everyone as it is very naive, but some of you might enjoy it immesnly.

4.5/5

+1 I went back and forth for about a week as to blind buy it or not. All the reviews I could find were all over the map. Lot's of people said it was hard to keep track of who was who, pacing problems, confusing childish dialog, etc.

I finally bit the bullet and got it, and loved it! I had no problem keeping track of the characters, and I really enjoyed the story. It was much darker than I expected, and some of the fight scenes were really (bloodlessly) violent. I can't believe this got a PG rating.

Also, it has a very good lossless audio track with some great surround immersion, and LFE content, and one of the most gorgeous pictures of anything I've seen on blu-ray! The detail in the feathers is unreal!

I love both films. They're similar in that they both have periods of silence that tell more than any bit of dialogue could, and they both use drab, colorless sets to convey a particular mood. That being said, Army of Shadows is certainly a more complex and personal film. As good as Le Samourai is and as similar as they are in the way they're shot, Army of Shadows is on a different level (maybe not as fun to watch though, due to the difference in subject matter).

Looks like I'll need to see some more Melville films. "Le Samourai" is the only one I've seen.

Next greatest rental: “The Losers.”

Wow. It starts off looking exactly like the “Battlefield: Bad Co” video game! In both cases, it’s all about a group of misfit soldiers wreaking havoc and goofing off. After the prologue, “The Losers” veered away from that premise and turned into a pretty standard action flick. It does have plenty of thrilling action scenes, lotsa big ‘splosions and car wrecks, and some rather amusing comic relief. Parts of it are downright cool.

The story is mildly interesting at best, but it felt very standard to me, with a group of poorly developed one-dimensional characters. A fine excuse for all the big dumb unrealistic action we see, but overall it felt very average.

The film also feels…average. Photography is okay. Acting and writing are okay for this kind of movie. Production value is okay. Music is okay.

This review is okay.

3.5/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 3/5, film: 3/5)

Recommendation: Action fans can rent it.

Well obviously I like the story of two brothers who broke out of jail and robbed a bank and have to sneak through customs, but it isn't all that good, it feels pretty bland. With Tarantino's character being overly creepy and psychopathic and George Clooney being a bit too unlikeable. It's pattered with good parts (I love the opening scene) but it feels a bit too bland, and obviously there is a point where the characters succeed in their quest for freedom and it could end perfectly well there. But then it turns into f**king Evil Dead and it becomes unbelievably awesome.

Condoms filled with Holy Water! Harvey Keitel with a baseball bat and Shotgun! A cod piece revolver!

1st half = 6/10

2nd half =10/10

= 8.5/10!!!
I loved the whole film and thought it was a unique take on a horror film. Both acts were great in my opinion. Got Em!!

Damn only a 2.5?? U say poor decisions by the protagonists but to me especially compared to some other horror flicks, I thought they actually did ok with their decisions especially in their situation. Trust me Ive seen worse including films like The Strangers & Funny Games etc....Got Em!!
