While I'm deaf and don't rely on the audio tracks to enjoy a movie but I can understand why some weren't happy with Warner Bros. because of the lack of a PCM track, all of you just wanted the best quality possible made available to the public.

Just like I want all of the contents including interviews, deleted scenes and all to be subtitled in English for the deaf and hard of hearing. It's quite a frustrating issue we have to deal with on a daily basis. Most Blu-Ray titles, only the main feature (movie) is subtitled while the rest of the contents aren't. That's where I have an issue with some major studios including Warner Bros. Note the "SDH - Main Feature Only". SDH stands for 'Subtitled for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing'. What people don't realize is, there are over 30 million Americans with a degree of hearing loss.

So, all I want from these studios is the best video quality and made accessible to the deaf. Odds are that the special features on 'The Departed' won't be subtitled but I'm buying it no matter what because it's a Scorsese flick.

Sorry to go off-topic but just thought I'll share a pet peeve of mine here since people are often peeved about the lack of a PCM track on their WB titles.

Banjo, you may want to request this to paidgeek. Alerting him now to this issue would be beneficial. Also ask him to ask other studios to encode subtitles for all the video or audio-only parts of BD movies.

I for one would like a video-descriptive audio tracks to be a standard for BDs. Encode it with Dolby Digital at 384.

Already made the request a couple nights ago, he said he'll pass it on the others and see what happen. Hopefully the studios will realize that it's necessary to do so, and I think the video-descriptive audio track is absolutely a must on both DVD and Blu-Ray for the legally blind audience. A number of theatres offer it too.

Very good point. I applaud you in sharing that.

The PCM track is good news for BD. Now hopefully they will get Batman Begins released on BD by mid-year.

So I am guessing this is going to be a 50gb disc then? Or will it be 30gb on a 50gb disc?

Good News i'm very happy with Warner's desicion to include PCM from now and on,and i would like to use all the 50GB on BD.

you know why they have choose Superman Returns on HD-DVD as a top Surround titles because it includes DolbyTHD,what if Superman Returns used the PCM compressed sound and maximise the VC_1 codec to the fullest of BD50.

the Result will be unbelievable and exceed the HD-DVD version.

Great, finally some PCM support!

Anyone know if Blood Diamond is coming to Blu-Ray. I watched the movie a couple days ago, and I was just amazed. Definately one of the best movies I've ever seen!

Yes, the PCM track is good news but my question is why not DoblyTrueHD. Does not DTHD use less space then PCM? And is not PCM a lossey sound track unlike DTHD. I think I might be confused here.

THD is half the space of PCM. But I believe Warner is using encoders that are written by Microsoft that are geared towards HD-DVD. While the encoder works with THD for HD-DVD, it doesn't work with BD. THD for BD may have to be re-encoded. So far only one title has THD on BD.

The other reason is that Warner is following the suggestions of the BD supporters that they do PCM instead of THD, since most of the BD players out there do not have THD decoding capability.

TrueHD takes a PCM track and losslessly compresses it. The end result when decoded will be the original PCM track.

PCM is lossless.

TrueHD is a lossless encoding of an LPCM soundtrack. The same soundtrack Warner can simply use directly on Blu-ray.
