My Columbo hopes just took a pretty big hit.

(Then again, the hipsters did take quite a shine to Pabst for a while there.)

It's pretty easy to guess what titles have the best shot. Moral of the story, don't count on it, be happy when it happens. I just wouldn't count on anything that is targeted over the people who are currently 40

It appears Bill is sick his stomach about the thought of a Blade Runner sequel/prequel/whatever.

How much you wanna bet they try and get Shia LeSuck to play the lead role?

Frankly I have a hard time believing that they would make a Blade Runner film.

Do you see this actually happening?

As a Blade Runner freak Im in two minds about a prequel/sequel whatever but Im prepared to take the chance (I can always ignore it if necessary).

Shia Lebouef though? Jesus...hes terrible. Unless a replicant shoots him early on in the film perhaps?!

I was joking on the Shia part.

At least I hope I was. <gulp>

There's very little chance it will come off well, yes. Best thing to do is simply move it forward 30 years so that you can use the trappings, but don't feel obligated to reference

You know, I'm the biggest Blade Runner fan in the world (don't question me- I AM!) and this "news" doesn't phase me in the slightest. With very little exception, I will happily ignore any product that comes of this. Likelihood of anything coming of it? What... 3%?

Over the years, I've imagined a number of sequel/sidequel/whatever scenarios that might "work" for me. None of them involve the characters in the movie in any substantive way. None of them take place 30 years hence, either.

Wallstreet 2 is an example where it CAN work. It paid respect to the original and didn't try to remake it.

But in Blade Runner's case, whats the point?

But then again what is the point with anything Hollywood does these days.

They keep INSISTING on making these stupid remakes that are godawful and critically panned. So I won't be shocked at anything they do anymore.

Yes, and he and Carey Mulligan were the WORST parts of that film. Completely weren't right for it.

You forget Blade Runner bombed in its theatrical run and the critics weren't too kind either.

With a decent script and a good director a BR remake may not be a bad thing and might actually turn a profit.

So you're basically saying they're going with the Tron theory.

Better get the script thing right, because Legacy didn't.

Lack of "a decent script and a good director" were not the reasons Blade Runner bombed.

I never said that was the reason. But it did have the hated voiceovers. Somebody wrote those.

As I interpret the press release, it specifically states that a remake is not to be attempted.

I may be a foolish optimist but given the right script - something set in that world that honours the themes of BLADE RUNNER - there is no shortage of good directors that cite the film as a major influence and that might be interested in taking it on.

Further reports at least intimate that they want to go classy - naturally, they want Nolan or even Scott himself. As long as we never see the legend "A film by Paul W.S Anderson", we might be ok.

Suggesting that those attributes might make a sequel successful, immediately after mentioning that the original wasn't successful, certainly implied it.

May as well remove "The Rumor Mill" from the navigation bar on the left of the site. Last update 9/29/10.

I agree completely. The right person making it and the right script can make ANYTHING work.

I am now more open to a film set in the Blade Runner universe.

Buit if it can't be done right, dont do it!

Is there likely to ever be a real top drawer blu-ray of Night of the Living Dead? Or does the whole public domain thing just discourage anyone from making the effort?
