I agree 100%

What HD owner doesn't want Pixar.

Simpsons is a big Wal Mart title. I got it from my brother and sister in law and my brother just about had to wrestle someone to get it. Since Wallyworld is not included in the numbers... Add that to the fact that it is true that animation titles have not been great first week titles and it is not such a huge surprise. On Blade Runner, I don't think that the HD DVD version had the problem that the BD versions did. Considering this, I think it is a good thing that the title didn't tank the first week.

Add all of this to BOGOs and a massive drive of red fans to buy and, while it is not the results I would like to have seen, it is still another winning week.

EXACTLY! Just managed to get it this week (and I know personally few others). I have a feeling that the 2nd week sales for the Blade Runner will be very close to the 1st one...

The BD version I got came from Wal-Mart as well.

Numbers not too surprising when all the HD-DVD side has to buy this week is Bourne. The Blu titles are spread out. The only thing keeping HD-DVD alive is Planet Earth. I have seen that thing advertised ad nauseum on Discovery the last few weeks. The reason it is selling so good is that it is advertised as High Definition DVD. Not HD-DVD until the end of the commercial. Lots of people must think the are getting a DVD that is in High Def, and that Blu-ray is just something different.

Never saw a copy of Blu Blade at either of my local Targets, nor at Best Buy, but did see the HDDVD at all those stores. I also didnt get my Blu BladeRunner shipped from Amazon until a week after release....those numbers will definately skew the other way.

Bourne was on BOGO at Best Buy while Simpsons were ridicuosly priced at $35 at BB, and not much cheaper than $30 elsewhere. That's why I didn't buy it.

Blade Runner was understocked on BD. I think it would have sold more if there wasn't an issue with availability

It doesn't matter if it sold more on red the first week. Blu titles continue to sell well after the release date. Especially now with all the new blu-owners!

Animation would most likely sell better at places like Wal-Mart which isn't counted in the Nielsen's.

HOWEVER, I wouldn't really lump "The Simpsons" in with the Pixar movies as I know a lot of people who won't let their kids watch "The Simpsons" on TV, much less in a movie, but would let them watch the Pixar films.

The BOGO sell at Best Buy probably paddled an additional 10-30k units to Bourne Ultimatum's number.

I've seen a lot of posts on here in the last few weeks about an Engadget HD-DVD bias, and I must admit I've never really bought into it. But tonight, I saw the most ridiculous EngadgetHD post of all time. Now it seems everytime HD-DVD makes the slightest ripple, they start the "it will sure be interesting to see what THIS will do against Blu-Ray." This time, they pulled a post right of the HD-DVD FUDder/fanboy handbook and posted the Amazon graph and were raving about how well HP titles were selling. They also quote the AVS forum. We will win the week, the BOGO will be proved pointless......but as many times as this happens it never fails.

Besides, didn't Planet Earth hit #1 on the Amazon charts already, thus making this Engadget post entirely false?

Yes, I know. I could swear Planet Earth was #1 a few weeks ago for a brief period of time. And that's ALL movies, not just HDM.

It wouldn't surprise me that all those copies of Blade Runner for Blu-ray that got shipped out with HD DVD stickers on them were counted as sales of the HD DVD version, which would have really screwed up the numbers on that title. I know the copy I got from WHV has the HD DVD sticker on it, and it seems like a pretty common mistake.

So, hang on, the rumoured #s for this week are 61:39 too, like last week?

Or am I confusing weeks?

No Confusion, Dave said it was 61 for blu implying 39 for the red ants, and HMM will show theirs tomorrow apparently.

But that will be for the first 61:39 not the second if they follow the pattern from last year.
