At this point, I no longer think numbers really matter much. I believe its all about negotiations and making a good offer to Warner to go bluray exclusive.
The sales trend has been obvious, bluray has done what it has done all year. |

Yeah ...Warner has all the data it needs and its time for them to make a decision. I am just hoping there won't be a decision BEFORE the new Time Warner CEO takes over ...if you know what I mean.
We Blu-ray supporters are scarred from the Paramount fiasco. The choice is obvious barring any unforeseen internal politics. Last edited by Balian; 12-28-2007 at 07:43 AM. |

Can you believe the red fools over at highdefdigest actually think the 61:39 ratio is a win for hd dvd. just because they finally had BOGO offers on new releases they think the tide has turned. the same BOGO offers they thought were unfair when the blu side had them. bunch of hypocrites. I just laugh because we steamrolled them again. I laugh at kosty, gizmo and those other clowns that think losing every week of the year actually means they are gaining anything.

The funny thing is, let's pretend, shall we, that we are Warner Brothers. Our main purpose, of course is to make money. We release the Harry Potter discs. At full price, they sell more on blu-ray. So the hd-dvd desparates use the buy one get one free to "up" the Harry Potter numbers to try and beat the blu-ray number of copies sold. But wait a minute, Warner lost plenty of money on those BOGO hd-dvd Potter discs. Their profit was more for the blu-ray version. Yet here are the stupid hd-dvd fanboys having a climax over the possibility of the Potter films outselling (in quantity) the blu-ray, not realizing it's profit that Warner is looking at in the end.
By the way, I have not purchased my Harry Potter films yet. I was hoping for a sale like this, and hd-dvd gets it. So I would like to make a recommendation, please everyone write to Amazon and ask for fairness for our format so we can get the Potter deal too. I don't say this to beat the hd-dvd numbers, but I want them at that price. They did respond to my 2 letters and said it was a consideration, so maybe with more requests we will get another BOGO sale. I am not sure how much Warner has to do with it. I notice they are now gone from the hd-dvd BOGO sale. Please write so we can get the deal too. |

I have to ask Balian, what did you mean about the new CEO? I am not aware of what's happening there. |

The reality is: so long as Microsoft backs HDDVD there will be fear in the Blu community. That is just a fact of life.
The rest is obvious, at least for those of us who have a thorough grasp of the current market conditions. Until what needs to be done for the war to be over is done there will be plenty of static in the air. Pro-B |

"Meanwhile, Sony's camp received help winning over one influential studio from an unlikely source. Raider Carl C. Icahn, one of Time Warner's largest shareholders, began pressuring the studio to find ways to boost its stock price earlier this year. Despite Time Warner's long alliance with Toshiba, CEO Richard Parsons asked Jeff Bewkes, chairman of the company's entertainment unit, to reconsider the best way to recharge DVD sales. Bewkes decided that the studio should forget appearances and back Blu-ray if it was the format most likely to win consumers' hearts. "Blu-ray's potential for more capacity started looking better and better," said one Hollywood executive." http://www.timewarner.com/corp/manag...s_jeffrey.html |

First, thankfully the thread got back on topic. Reading both sides of that troll rant was becomming tiresome.
Second, if the numbers are 61:39 and it includes the red bogo sales, I'd call that simply incredible. Third, I think the Simpsons is only going to appeal to a much smaller audience. It's a cartoon. While I do and will buy the Disney animated movies, the Simpsons, being a cartoon is not of interest and not on my radar. Last edited by Tulsa; 12-28-2007 at 11:57 AM. |

The Simpsons is one of the great pop culture phenomenons of the modern entertainment era. Longest running cartoon in TV history, highly rated, legions of fans of all ages. It appeals to a HUGE audience with a fanatical following. I would say that release would appeal to an extremely large audience.
