Anything over $75 (including taxes), I am not buying it.
I buy from Amazon Canada so it will probably be more expensive than Amazon USA

I guess they just added the price since I didn't see it mentioned in the previous posts, but it's up for preorder at Amazon at $83.99 - http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Pic...rd_i=193640011

It also mentions that all the special features from the Extended DVD and Limited Edition DVDs will be included (9 special feature dvds in all). I seem to remember hearing that those documentaries were all done in SD, so not a big deal that they're on dvds - I'm just glad they're all included in the set. I expect the price will go down a bit more closer to the release date (whenever that is). I may wait a bit before pre-ordering, but I'm getting this regardless. Very happy the extended cuts are being released in HD!

So is this the year of the box sets? I don't recall as many boxsets being released last year, just BTTF and Alien. This year we have Scream (although they are individual releases), Stanley Kubrick, LOTR, Star Wars, Superman, possibly Indiana Jones.

I REALLY hope this set includes both the Theatrical and Extended editions on the same Disc. They did it on DVD there is NO reason it shouldn't happen on Blu-ray.

I'm afraid this looks like another half-way step towards the "Ultimate Editions" of these films on blu-ray. Case in point... the bonus features discs are exactly the same as the previous DVD releases. They're even on DVD not on blu-ray in high-def.

It is still over my spending limit of $75
Retail Price: $120

Hope Amazon will increase the discount further as we approach the release date.
Its odd how they have the price fixed but still thinking about the release date.

Shrek was one of the other notable ones. But yeah, this year is looking very good for box sets.

Just picked up the boxset at FutureShop for $19.99!! However the labelling on the box was messed up and upside down. Did a whole bunch of these get made and then had to be blown out because of that? The box itself just has a piece of paper taped to it anyway, its not of high quality so I'll probably just toss it and keep the Blu cases.

My question is...does this set have an issue with 24p playback? I get lots of judder on all three movies but every other Blu I own plays back fine at 24p. It's like every few seconds and it almost seems like the picture is zooming in and out really quickly, it's not like the judder I got before when I didn't have 24p set-up properly (using a HTPC). Anyway like I said all my other movies work fine but this set doesn't in 24fps.

??

Thanks
Well I picked up a PS3 a few days ago and watched Return of the King in 24p mode...absolutely NO problems whatsoever. I am DONE using HTPC's for this kind of thing, it's a waste of time trying to get everything configured properly.

Still can't believe I got this for $19.99! And no it's not bootleg, I got it from Future Shop. I will take some pics of how the box is mislabelled though. It's a pretty half-arsed product physically, it's the box with a sticky paper on top and the paper is upside down...probably because its English & French writing. The only insignia engraved on the box istself is the LOTR stuff on the side. It's got a Blu-Ray sticker across the top as well.

I wasn't aware of a DVD release that contained both versions on the same disc.

I originally bought the regular DVDs then later the extended editions... I don't remembering seeing any single release that had both.

As to having both on the same Blu-ray... I most certainly do NOT want that.

I bought the theatrical Blus already... if I was forced to buy them a 2nd time to get the extended edition, that would tick me off. They should release the extended editions without including the theatricals in that set.

That way people have a choice... Buy the one you prefer OR buy both.

The "Limited Edition" DVD trilogy included both versions via seamless branching.

A two-disc limited edition with the theatrical and EE versions of the movies was released in 2006. The first disc, which is a flip-over disc has the movie. The second disc has the Costa Botes documentary, which is good but not as organized as the special features on the original EE's.

My apologies... I completely missed out on knowing such a release exists.

At least I can still stand by the desire to want to keep the releases separate so I don't have to buy the theatricals twice to get the extended ones on Blu-ray.
