Default Warning not present on Amazon HD DVDs?

Ok, look at these 2 pages.

http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-G...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd
http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-G...8857128&sr=1-6

If you notice, on the Blu-ray page, there's this line.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This disc is a high-definition disc and is compatible only with Blu-ray players. It will not play on a standard DVD player. Click here to see our selection of Blu-ray players.

If you look at the HD DVD page, it's not there.

Why? You can't play it on a DVD, it's not even a combo disc, and even if it was... they should know you need the HD DVD player to play it in high definition.

Dunno about you guys, but the fact that the Amazon BOGO makes the Potter HD DVDs cheaper than regular DVDs and the fact that there's no warning they won't play on a DVD player is going to create some mistaken buys.

They don't appear to be combos... very odd. That might confuse some customers.

I wonder if that warning was there before the BOG?? If it was Amazon is a dirty little bastard; capitalizing on the BOGO and purposely misleading consumers.

If I were to guess, I'd say half of misled people would buy a cheap A2 instead after getting a ton of dirt cheap HD-DVDs in the mail and returning them.

Yeah, there is something fishy with amazon...

I recently (yesterday) got 4 blu ray disks and guess what else do I find in the box?

A promotional flyer from the inferior high -def format telling me to "experience the look and sound of"... dispair; and this s@#$ was packed with my blu-ray disks for crying out loud....

What is this? I mean, I only got blu-ray, I always get blu-ray only and if they think (Amazon, Toshiba (??)) this is going to make me change my mind, they must be more desperate than I thought....

I have had this experience one time... Granted I dont buy from Amazon often so Im not quite sure about the consistency of this issue. It could have been just a mistake but then again, ya never know.

You don't understand? it's Microcrap's politics : people will buy it thinking "hey, it's a DVD but it's HD, why buy this Blu-ray we don't know anything about?" of course there'll be returns, but there's a percentage they'll win anayway ... The name HD DVD is only there to manipulate people!!!

It’s called Paid Advertising, HD-DVD paid Amazon X amount of $ to put X amount of ads in there shipments, for X amount of time. Doesn't matter if you buy Blu-ray, DVD, a Book, a shirt, etc... when your item gets ship an ad goes with it.
It has nothing to do with Amazon being pro HD-DVD.

I am going to go with "whoever designed the page, didn't remember to use the disclaimer" and assume it was a simple mistake instead of starting some random conspiracy that Microsoft and Amazon.com are trying to trick people into buying HD DVD's by not using a disclaimer about titles not being able to play in regular DVD players.

Exactly.

And what's the animosity toward Amazon. I'm sure most of you got ur hands dirty with Blu-ray BOGO from them. If you guys really feel angered by Amazon's HD DUD BOGO, then we should write them an email or snail mail asking for another BLU BOGO soon cause I'm itching to buy couple more BDs through BOGO.

They use to have it before, but it looks like this past May it has be removed or forgot to be added. it doesn't matter if people order the wrong one they can just return it.

All returns will count has a negetive towards Nielson numbers.

Thank you for the welcome!! I've been lurking around this site for some time and I finally decided to openly join the blu community.

I realise this. It's just that I think this is a crappy policy....

Talking It's the same as the rebate Scheme

+1 Bingo... I agree

It's the same as the rebate Scheme, IMHO.

Here is my take. It is obvious to us, the informed, as we know the difference between the superior format, blu, and the crap one hd-dvd.

When I read about this a cpl weeks ago on AVS, I thought about it, and the only justification I could come up with is a Rebate analogy.

You buy something, and when you don't send in the rebate, they win, you lose, and pay full price.

In this case, some unknown J6P buys say, Planet Earth on hd-dvd, (thanks Oprah, you moron), but it doesn't play on his HD TV, or his HD Upconvert to 1080p $29 Wally world special. But he doesn't return it because he sees it as a hassle. (IE: Rebate).

hd-dvd and Oprah suckers one more victim into their web of confusion and DECEPTIVE Schemes.

I think some smart Lawyer, (ok there has to be 1 out there), could make a boatload of money off a deceptive practice class-action lawsuit against Amazon, or hd-dvd group for deceptive business practices. (oh and the victims get a $3 off dvd coupon while the lawyers get millions)

Example: Hmmm, I wonder why Planet Earth on DVD is all of a sudden very high on Amazon's Charts.... Can you say RETURNS of hd-dvd... I knew you could.....

Does Amazon put the warning on any HD DVDs? (I don't look at them so I don't know).

Perhaps they are just lazy and rather than research which discs are or are not combo discs, they just label none of them.

I don't think J6P even reads disclaimers. Stores usually put disclaimers to institute an "I told you so" if angry customers return with products they can't use.

Posted this on High def Digest... and MAN a lot of HD DVD trolls there. I guess they all moved over from AVS. It's not that they're all bad but there's so many of them that are just awful that the place is pointless.

Check out this "ghost of vincent price" weiner.

What I found to be most bizarre is that 626 people reviewed the hd dvd copy, while only 1 person reviewed the blu-ray version.
