Default Blu-ray playback in dolby 5.1

Just purchased Playstation 3 and our first BD Kingdom of Heaven. The audio is optical to a Yamaha dolby receiver 1103.

Playing non hd dvd's the sound is DD 5.1

When playing BD Kingdom of Heaven only reads as pro-logic output. Appears to have DTS output on the BD disc.

Is there a difference in dolby digital 5.1 and DTS?

Thank you,

Brian

Two different formats. Make sure your receiver is DTS capable.

That is your problem! LOL J/K

There is a lot of difference on DTS and DD, especially when watching action, loud movies.

Default Thank you!

It appears my suspicions are correct.

My receiver is a dolby digital 5.1 but DTS i believe came out afterwards.

Buy something new then have to invest in more newer components. That endless circle lol. I'll live with it for while.

Thank you for the reply and answers. Very much appreciate it.

Well quality in sound end with PCM (or Loseless), it's the first time in the industry that people can put their hand in PCM/Loseless sound for cinema in 7.1 (max)

You can get a Onkyo 605 for pretty cheap and it does it all....

Default Thanks!

Quality sound has always added so much more to great movies!

Noticing that most BD movies are 5.1. I just happen to buy one of the only ones in DTS. Sure there's many more....

Now with BD and great sound...we all must be getting close to heaven.

Happy New Year everyone!

I ran into a similar problem when playing my first BD - it was DTS-MA only for the English main feature. My receiver doesn't do any flavor of DTS, its DD only. Can anyone comment on whether the majority of BDs will still have a DD soundtrack or has the industry shifted almost entirely to DTS-xx? My own quick survey of a few online sites showed almost all popular releases as DTS only.

Thanks,
CJ
