Of course there will be: Pioneer, Sony, Samsung, Philips, Marantz, Sharp, Denon, Panasonic, et al make Blu-ray players, and you can bet that they're going to (continue to) compete for our cash. HD DVD isn't so much competition; it's more like a thorn in the side.

There is zero reason to believe they are not. He has shown in the past few weeks that he has access to the actual Videoscan numbers. Why would it be any different this week?

Absolutely. But, it needs to be a free market, with the opportunity for profitability.

At this point Toshiba has made it next to impossible for anyone else to profitable develop and sell an HD DVD player. And to a certain extent, their pricing is also causing a strain for Blu-ray as it sets an expectation from the consumer that is unfair in a "free" marketplace.

With HD DVD out the way, the other CE will compete for our cash. And there is still plenty of opportunity for the profitability that will drive innovation.

Sorry, I couldn't let this one go...
There is nothing "unfair" about Toshiba setting prices at any level, for any reason. It's their money, their gamble.

Default Reason for concern?

According to Amazon's "Bestsellers in DVD" list..

HD-DVD units hold 14 of the top 50 spots...
BD units hold down 3 of the top 50 spots...

Any thoughts???

no, hd dvd is paying big bucks to have a massive buy one get one free sale on amazon. do not think for one second, that this type of thing is the "return of hd dvd" or that these numbers at all represent the market.

I've been viewing threads over the past 7 or 8 months on a daily basis...

...I never suggested anything about the "return of HD-DVD", just merely wanting some thoughts.

Yes,

There is valid reason for concern.

These statistics show us there are a lot of people out there stupid enough to buy HD DUD.

I've very concerned indeed. That many brain-dead fools with access to money is not a good sign.

didn't say you did. i just said don't think it is, as your post seemed that you were concerned about numbers.
