Arrow Johnny English Reborn - 2011

As I couldn't find a thread for this I thought I'd set one up, even though the film is now in post-production.

Quote:

Rowan Atkinson returns to the role of the accidental secret agent who doesn’t know fear or danger in the comedy spy-thriller Johnny English Reborn. In his latest adventure, the most unlikely intelligence officer in Her Majesty’s Secret Service must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos.

In the years since MI7’s top spy vanished off the grid, he has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. But when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinese premier’s life, they must hunt down the highly unorthodox agent. Now that the world needs him once again, Johnny English is back in action.

With one shot at redemption, he must employ the latest in hi-tech gadgets to unravel a web of conspiracy that runs throughout the KGB, CIA and even MI-7. With mere days until a heads of state conference, one man must use every trick in his playbook to protect us all. For Johnny English, disaster may be an option, but failure never is.
Source

At present, the UK release date is 7th October 2011, but there's no word on the US release date at the moment.

I know not everyone will be excited by this movie, but as a fan of Rowan Atkinson and having a guilty pleasure love for the first film, I'm very excited by the sequel.

I set up a thread for this agggggeeeeessss ago, I think the search only uses threads from so long ago. I was searching for the Limitless thread and I couldn't find it

As for the film, I wasn't all that keen when it was first greenlit though the first is a gulity pleasure kind of film, I'll wait once some footage hits, I'll give this one a fair chance.

October does seem like the wrong time of the year for this type of film though

Oh, right. Maybe that's why I couldn't find it.

I don't think October is too bad, because it's out of the way of the summer blockbusters and is close to the half-term, but I do agree that there could have been a better time to release it.

Well Spring is usually the best time for Rowan Atkinson comedies.

The first one was just ridiculous with it's comedy, I can not even hint at how they will top it

But how?!?!? They bend the Archbishop of Canterbury over and pull down his pants showing his arse to everyone in the world, just before we see a very well choreographed routine of ABBA Does Your Mother Know with Rowan Atkinson in he nightwear and using his toothbrush as a microphone, how could you top that

Honestly I don't know, I was just being sarcastic. But I am hoping this time that the comedy is a bit more cleverly written, instead of it jut being stupid all the time, so maybe that's how they could top it.

It'd be nice to see if they can get a nice even between daft and clever, I think then the film could actually be a really great comedy. But I'll admit, the originals fast pace really doesn't leave much room for you to feel insulted about your intelligence.

Trailer is now available:

It looks to be the same mindless style of comedy that was in the first film, but to me that doesn't matter, because some movies are just made to be stupid.

Check out the first film as well, that came out in 2003, once that comes out on Blu as well.

Will do looks to be a fun series as it's nice to just sit back and watch a fun comedy and these 2 look like they will be good for that.

Yeah, they're you mindless, stupid comedy which are obviously parodies of James Bond, a bit like Austin Powers, just not as strong or sexual.

Yeah it will be refreshing to see a comedy type Bond film. I've also been interested in checking out Rowans films as he seems to be a funny comedian but haven't had the time yet to see his Mr. Bean films.

Rowan Atkinson is certaily my favourite comedian and this his early TV work, such as Blackadadder and Mr. Bean, is some of the finest and cleverist comedy ever written.

The Mr. Bean films are actually now out on Blu, although only in the UK I think, but they are region-free. The first is a bit iffy and just rehashes most the stuff from the TV show and the American setting doesn't work well, but the second film, Mr. Bean's Holiday, is much better and is more in tone with the TV series.

Cool will have to check them out. Can't believe they haven't made more Bean movies as the second made $229,736,344 on a $25 million budget.

You serious? I don't remember the first one that much but i remember the second one being unbearable. Found it absolutely terrible that I shut it off and this is coming off from someone who loves Bean. The show was great.

This movie looks eh, some Bean esque humor but that's it.

Well, Rowan Atkinson said he's not going to play Mr. Bean anymore after that, although he did do a short Children in Need sketch the same year the movie came. So no more Mr. Bean.

OK that would explain it then. Hopefully he's up for another Johnny English if this one does good.
