Ripping CDs on PS3

Looked through the forum and was unable to find a topic about this so here goes. Just got a new home theater and wanted to rip my CDs to the PS3 for easy listening choices. Was wondering what would be the best format (mp3, AATRAC , etc.) and bitrate and such to get CD or near CD sound without filling up the HDD with 10 CDs!

Here is what I do, I load the CD and then I import the album and song titles and then I copy to the PS3... The PS3 does all the work for you... I have about 12 albums loaded on my PS3 and still have lots of space on the hard drive...

192Kbps AAC will give you the best sound quality with the smallest file size. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between it and the original CD.

I thought 192 kbps mp3 was the way to go? Someone please enlighten me between mp3 and AAC and which is the best.

After reading Galley's post, I looked into AAC. This convinced me.

ATRAC/ATRAC 3 PLUS all the way, the best compression format created so far.

ACC or MP3 sound too, hmmm... artifical/fake, and really no punch, missing too much detail

There seems to be no conclusion to this thread.
If space is no issue would you all choose ATRAC 352 or AAC 320?

I just tried to rip the new Static Lullaby album and it wouldn't work. I couldn't rip it in iTunes either. I love DRM.

Either one or neither. It's up to your ears. If you can hear a difference, do it. If not, go for a lower bitrate until you do hear a difference. The trick is to know which song to experiment this on. Usually it's acoustic music like acoustic guitars, violins and bells.

Rip as in from a CD? Try Exact Audio Copy. It's freeware. First copy the CD as WAV files. Then you can either do two things: convert the WAV files to AAC/ATRAC or burn the WAV files on a CD-R and use that CD-R to rip to the PS3. The latter option is better I think because you can still use that CD-R in your car while keeping the original DRMed CD in your house.

I made PCM files of songs I like with Exact Audio Copy and put those on the PS3.

For many CD's I like to hear the whole CD so I don't mind putting in the disc. Certain songs on the other hand I like to have on the hard drive for when I show a photo slide show.

Get a 250 GB 2.5" SATA hard drive, and have no worries.

I do use it for streaming here and there, but I do want to rip a good chunk of songs for when more games get in-game custom playlists.
