Is Magical World going to get a Combo too?

We just got it from the library and my Belle fan can't get enough of it. She loves it.

It was mentioned only as a DVD in the Bambi trailers, so I doubt it.

There is nothing wrong with the movies as they were in the original aspect ratio. The DVD versions of many of the movies which are now being cropped (Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, BatB: EC etc) were released in their original aspect ratio!!! I'm in favor of artistic intention above all. Disney seems to have forgotten its roots and the people who have worked on and for these movies. What they are doing is a crime! Seriously, I get why they crop 1.66 to 1.78 but 1.33 to 1.78??????? this is insane!!!! Imagine doing that on Snow White!!! And by now Ι have come to the conclusion that disney does not give a f**k about its movies anymore, as long as they look pretty enough and sell well enough...

UPDATE

and for anyone wondering, i made a quick calculation. 1.33:1 to 1.78:1 means that the original image will be reduced by 33%. and here's an example from wikipedia

1.33 (original)

1.33:1 to 1.78:1 (cropped)
Maybe check out the concept of composing for widescreen and making videos for TV ? It's not the same thing as taking a image and cropping it

i'm not sure i get what you're saying, but if i am correct you think that the first 2 pictures will be in the blu-ray. if that's the case, you are mistaken my friend if you think the images you posted are similar to BatB:EC. I have made the same mistake when trying to undrestand different aspect ratios.

what disney has done in this one, is that thy have taken an image and THEN cropped it. the first 2 pictures you have shown are a completely different thing. they HAVE BEEN SHOT in 1.33:1 and 1.78:1 respectively.

what I posted though, is exactly what BatB:EC will look like on blu-ray.

No. You posted pictures from wikipedia showing examples of what you think how films like this were made and how the transfers would look done that way. I posted examples, from wikipedia of how the films like this are made, and of how the transfer of this film looked on VHS/TV/DVD, and will look on BD.

i don't think that these films were made in 1.33:1. it's a fact this movie was animated, filmed and has been released for all these years in 1.33:1. i think we agree on that. NOW disney is cropping it, for the first time ever (at least, I haven't seen a cropped version of it all these years).

to highlight the difference between the original and the to-be-cropped image, I found an example of an 4:3 image and compared it (as you did with the movie's pics) to a cropped version of the SAME IMAGE. I actually think my comparison is quite accurate and if you don't think so, your comparison from the movie (thanks for it btw) proves my point by itself.

I actually believe that the film was animated with both full screen and widescreen presentations in mind. By that, I mean they animated at 1.33:1 and protected for 1.66:1-1.78:1, just like Pooh's Grand Adventure and Lion King 2. If you want to watch it in 1.33:1 the DVD is available used on Amazon. The new Blu-ray will be 1.78:1. If you disagree with the framing, you dont have to buy it. When the disc is released, i think youll be suprised...i think you will gain image on the sides, and lose a small amount on the top and bottom. And personally, I think it'll be great. I'm looking forward to it!

(Apart from all the empty space. I see the Beast's reflection stops where the widescreen framing starts)
WHERE can you see the 1.33 was cropped? because seriously, I can't. I can only see that the frame ends in the same way (=there is NO LOSS to the sides), but the top and bottom of the frame have been heavily cropped.

Quote:
1.33 is a ratio films are cropped to fit on a TV screen.

I know what 1.33 ratio is. But what does that have to do with anything in that case??

I am sure the animators were aware that the frame might be cropped in future releases. What I said -hell, what i was asking was- why has Disney decided to crop the image NOW, while in all their previous releases there was no problem with it. And as for the amazon route, firstly, I want to buy the movie in my native language as well as in English (I love both voiceovers). Secondly and most importantly, buying the DVD from amazon is not the way to go. The problem is not that they just ruined a part of one movie's picture, the problem is that it has become a fashion in the Disney studios to do it over and over again - mind you- for no apparent reason!!!

Both screenshots are cropped from the original source. As Deci has stated, look closely at the sides of both screencaps.

On the right side of the 1.33:1 screenshot notice that the bottom of the Beast's coat ends with an upward sloping angle where as his coat ends in a downwards sloping angle in the 1.78:1 screenshot.

On the left side of both images, using the snow on the bridge for reference points, you'll notice a larger portion of the last column can be seen in the 1.78:1 image when compared to the 1.33:1 image.

Yes, the 1.33:1 screenshot has more information on the top and bottom of the image but the 1.78:1 version has information on the sides which is missing from the 1.33:1 version.
