Default Steelbook Question ? [Vote]

Answer please

1) When you buy a Steelbook do you open the case, or do you leave it sealed?

2) When its a movie you want to watch do you watch the Steelbook, or buy another Blu-Ray to watch the movie ?

3) If you get a Steelbook from another country such as Denmark, do you leave the Steelbook sealed or do you use it ?

I ask as im starting collecting.

1. I open it. Steelbooks are really nice packaging, but thats all they are, packaging. Anyone who doesn't open them and display them like museum pieces or expects to make a profit on them are delusional fools.

2. I'd already have the movie in a steelbook that would be regularly opened. Why would I buy an amaray version?

3. Same asnwer as number 1.

I usually open it to see the inside artwork.

I have no problem watching the movie from the steelbook, but I actually don't watch much from them.

1) When you buy a Steelbook do you open the case, or do you leave it sealed?

Depends on the item. For me, I left my Iron Man 2 Asia one sealed because I knew the value would be greater if I left it sealed. I also double dipped so I had a copy to open.

2) When its a movie you want to watch do you watch the Steelbook, or buy another Blu-Ray to watch the movie ?

I open all my SB except if there are multiple SB releases then I keep the one I value most sealed while opening the lesser one.

3) If you get a Steelbook from another country such as Denmark, do you leave the Steelbook sealed or do you use it ?

If it is region free, I use it. If I can't play it, I would keep it sealed unless I plan on replacing the disk with a region free disc.

1) Depends on which SteelBook I receive first. In the case of Harry Potter, I opened the German SteelBook, but left the FutureShop IronPack sealed. But with Scott Pilgrim, I bought the Amaray as it came out first, and left the SteelBook Sealed. Girlfriend teases me about it all the time though

2) Again, see #1

3) Again, See #1

I watch them and always open them. I only get a steelbook of a movie I'd want anyway. I think I'd feel a bit embarrassed to buy a load of movies just for their packaging... you'd never get me to buy some of the beautiful steelbooks for terrible movies. I think it looks a bit silly when I see someone's collections and they just have them there still sealed with stickers on and stuff, for one thing you don't even get to show off the steelbook's artwork, it's all about 'look at this valuable thing I own' and I don't really care about that. But hey, each to their own. You should do what you want to do, not just follow what other people here say you should do as a 'collector'

I always open them, however I take out the disc and put in an regular bluray case and print out a custom cover. I then wrap the steelbook with one of those sleeves so it does not scratch

2) When its a movie you want to watch do you watch the Steelbook, or buy another Blu-Ray to watch the movie ?
Hell no, they got my money once, I'm not spending to get another copy just to watch.

3) If you get a Steelbook from another country such as Denmark, do you leave the Steelbook sealed or do you use it ?
I only buy steelbooks with English on them (no offence to anyone). I always open my steelbooks.
See answers in quoted message in bold, oh and welcome to steelbook collecting

Completely agree with this, because at the end of the day the movie is the most important thing, not nice looking packaging.

I have 3 sealed I think. Ironman FS, I am legend DE and the Hurt locker because I have 2 copies of the last 2. Ironman I didn't open because I watched it just before buying it and then the price went up so I didn't open it.

I really don't see the point in buying them if you're just going to leave it sealed, I could understand if you bought a few to resell or trade later to leave those sealed and open yours, but otherwise seems a waste. I have a limited collection, only 4 with my 5th hopefully coming at the end of this week (Machete).
It will be going straight from its factory seal to a dvd/blu resealable wraps, I've put all my steel and slipcover blu-rays in them now. So it should remain mint, the others which only got wrapped up recently are pretty much perfect. My Robin Hood steel does have a tiny dent at the top, unfortunate but it greeted me when I took off factory seal.

Know where I can get some wraps to keep them safe ?

Exactly as I do, most are region free or region B anyhow.

Even if I have multiple copies of the same movie in different steels I still open them as I change my display around and they look like crap in there wrapping. I keep all of mine once opened in hard plastic slip covers so the chance of damage is small.

One thing I dont understad is why people always want mint/sealed if they are going to open them anyhow. If they are mint why does it matter? Its even less of a risk as often there is damage under the cardboard slip sleeve.
