I predict that you wouldn't like it. It is subtitled, jeez. I'm not sure if the US disc would have English dubbing on it or not. Regardless, it doesn't seem like the type of film you'd usually go for, and you might find it a little boring.

Yea Im sure I wouldnt like it. Got Em!!

Someone recently told me how A River Runs Through It ends though
Worth watching for Pitts performance alone. He really shines in it.

I thought Craig Scheffer was really good in it too, wish he had been on One Tree Hill more than the little bit he was.

And lots of DVD's actually look pretty good when upconverted

And CZAR, subtitles shouldn't ruin your viewing experience... you just haven't acclimated to them. But if and when you do, after a few films - the reading of subtitles blends right into the experience. I recommend not shying away from foreign films, there's just too much good stuff out there.

Being John Malkovich

I'm on both sides of the spectrum on this, I found it really uncomftable to watch, which is what the film was trying to be, but I didn't like the whole experience.

Every time I liked something, something would come along and just throw me off, I'm not really a fan of films where all the characters are creepy slimy snide people. You do genuinely feel sympathetic and pitiful towards the characters the films credit, but pity is such an easy emotion to stir in the audience, especially since the entirety of the film is just looking at how pathetic the characters are.

I love the premise of it, and the film really strides when it does this, it's own little weird world of John Malkovich really is interesting and is used pretty much to it's full potential. The scene of
[Show spoiler]Malkovich within Malkovich
is classic to anyone who has seen the film. However I sometimes found the visuals to be surreal just for the sake of surrealism, it's easy to see that Spike Jonez is a Music Video Director.

Also gains extra Charlie Sheen points for
[Show spoiler]ending with Malkovich telling him how to live forever

The film is great, it's unlike anything you will probably see, do I recommend it to friends though, no. Mainly because my friends won't like a film like this, even my more film fan friends (heck I'm not a fan of it). But if you're on this thread, and haven't seen it/ heard of it, give it ago.

6/10

Synopsis: Pediatrician Alexandre Beck still grieves for his beloved wife Margot Beck, who was murdered eight years earlier. When two bodies are found near the scene of the original crime, the police reopen the case, and Alex becomes a suspect again.
Running Time: 131 minutes

Director: Guillaume Canet (Little White Lies)
Writers: Guillaume Canet, Philippe Lefebvre, Harlan Coben
Stars: François Cluzet (Story of Women), Marie-Josée Croze (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), André Dussollier (A Very Long Engagement), Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient), François Berléand (The Chorus), Nathalie Baye (Catch Me If You Can), Jean Rochefort (Man on the Train), Marina Hands (Lady Chatterley)

Tell everyone: "Tell No One" is a superb thriller.

Watching the film is the equivalent of watching a master artist paint his magnum opus. Every stroke is done so delicately, every color is chosen carefully, and every detail is given an equal amount of attention. The plot is unquestionably one of the best noirs in recent years, the characters are colored diversely and perfectly, and the cinematography is utterly majestic; one of the best-looking thrillers ever.

The music as a whole is a bit unbalanced. The English-language pop songs may seem a tad out-of-place for some, but the original score by Mathieu Chedid (aka M) is pitch-perfect, melding seamlessly with the beautifully-shot sequences. One will surely be scratching his/her head wondering why they didn't just let Chedid do the entire score.

The movie geek in me would quickly give this a perfect score, but from a critic's standpoint, it certainly has its flaws. The long exposition at the end could have been shortened, the choice of pop songs is polarizing ("With or Without You," really?), and the story relies too much on coincidences. I could overlook the many coincidences in the plot (noirs rely on the element of fate after all), but when things happen conveniently for the sake of symbolism, it isn't easy to turn a blind eye on.

I could speak in superlatives all day long about this movie. It's seriously a must-see for everyone, whether you're a fan of the genre or not. It has enough distinctive flavor in it to be distinguished as a French film, but in it's heart, it's a Hollywood man-on-the-run thriller; the kind that Hollywood has sadly forgotten to make. Only an Anton Ego-hearted bastard wouldn't enjoy this exceptional film.

So once again, I'm telling you, to tell yourself and everyone else, "Tell No One" is one hell of a ride more people should be lining up for.

Rating: ****1/2 out of 5
Excellent review. I absolutely loved this movie as well.

I loved the music in it. That part when he is trying to figure out the password to see the e-mail and U2 starts playing as the clue, that was brilliant.

Playboy? Really?

I'm sure most people here would agree that many dvds look excellent upscaled, and actually look better than some blu-rays. For example, Sin Nombre.

Well pretty much it does go hand in hand as I have said before. If I like a film better than another then most likely I think its a better film. It may not be 100% but for the most part thats how it is. Its just hard for me to watch a film that I think is just ok or decent and even if the acting is great and the directing is top notch, its hard for me to say its a great film when thats not how I felt after watching it. Yes The Social Network was well made but the overall product was just solid. A story about someone being sued due to a website idea just isnt that big for me. So again favorites/best is pretty much hand in hand but there may be a few exceptions but not many in my book. Got Em!!
Well, I highlighted the worst, but in no way is Frozen, Eli, or Unstoppable a better film than The Social Network. You know, there is a huge difference between a good movie and a favorite movie. You shouldn't let preference and taste get in the way of distinguishing a well-made film...

A little trivia: In Sofia Coppola's movie Lost in Translation, Ribisi's character was based on Spike Jonze (Copolla's ex-husband) and Farris was based on Cameron Diaz, both of whom worked together in Being John Malkovich.

The Orphanage, Diabolique, and The Devil's Backbone (among others--I know there are other popular ones out there I haven't seen, such as Martyrs and Rec).

But come on...we all know Czar is a lost cause when it comes to this! His loss!

I felt that was the cheesiest, most laughably bad scene in the entire film. While it was nice to see a thriller use a different type of music than what the standard is for thrillers, but the music was putrid. A solid, above average film for sure, but one of the worst scores \ soundtracks.
