Well, he got the ratio right, just seems that he misunderstood which format had the higher number

Does anyone else think that this could very well be his last press release?

His last? No there's DEFINITELY going to be ONE more press release...

"Mr. Graffeo has decided to step down from his position to spend more time with his family..."

Mr. Graffeo has "stepped down" so that he can take on more important things here, like cleaning the toilets and replacing the toilet paper rolls.

Am I dreaming or did they change the article?

Do we have the original article archived in here?

Yeah, they changed the article awhile ago after the writer received numerous emails about it. Supposedly, it was the writer's mistake.

Their second straight BOGO at BB.

And unlike Blu BOGOs which are for a few select titles, these are for every title in the store.

Fire sale?

I don't think we should call their sales "fire sales." It's derogatory.

Besides, it's really hard to set fire to those discs. Maybe call them "coaster sales," since that's all many of the discs are good for. Or "boil sales," since you have to boil the combo discs to get them to play.

See, much less derogatory.

I did find it interesting that they included a brand new title in the sale?

Kinda shoots giant holes in any critique of blu ray bogos as they've only moved older titles.

Interesting, why would you do that unless , you were selling off your stock?

The time to worry about sales is well and truly over, the movers and shakers have all the data they need.

It's quite clear HD-DVD can only hope to come close to Blu-ray sales during a mega release week (Transformers), BOGOS's and player firesales.

It really is too little, too late for HD-DVD.

All that can help them now is a bribe, unfortunately MS aren't onboard to prop 'em up, unless WB also sign the death warrent for HD-DVD and move quickly to HD downloads.

Once again, unfortunately for MS, WB very much want an HD optical format for the forseable future, whilst MS's long term plan has been blown out into the open.

A week ago, when the numbers was not released, he took that chance to claim that HP sold better in HD-DVD. What a desperate liar

Yes, they changed the article. And yes, we have the original article archived here

She changed the story:

Hell Hath No Fury Like a High-Def Fan Scorned

Quote:
Just prior to the long Christmas weekend, I posted a story online that carried a mistake. Instead of saying that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on HD DVD was selling slightly below its Blu-ray version at a 45 to 55 ratio, I went all dyslexic and inverted the numbers to say HD DVD was actually outpacing Blu-ray at a 55 to 45 ratio. That was wrong. Or WRONG!!!!! according to the dozens of emails I got from pretty pissed-off readers. It has since been corrected. I do agree that I was careless, probably stupidly careless, for making that error. But I'm not sure if it merited the sort of 'extreme enthusiasm' it generated.
The issue would be: Was she wrong? She said her original info came from Universal research. Now she says it came from Universal and was based on the Nielsen/Videoscan research (in other words information we all had access to).

Her original story was specifically how HD DVD was ahead of Blu-ray for Potter sales. So, she now seems to be saying she made up a bunch of conclusions based solely on a ratio she didn't bother to check.

Quote:
Additionally, notes Universal research, Warner Home Video’s HD DVD release of Order of the Phoenix is edging out the titles’ BD version by a 55-to-45 ratio. Order of the Phoenix also streeted Dec. 11. That claim matches information gathered from Amazon.com sales rankings in recent weeks.
To me, saying "notes Universal research" means that something from Universal research specifically points it out. Merely seeing 44:55, misreading the winner, and then concluding what she originally published is not a note from Universal research. It would be her making a grand conclusion from a number she didn't bother to read properly.

Is she now saying this note didn't exist? What exactly did Universal research say to her?

Either it is immensely shoddy journalism, or she was pumped misinformation before Xmas because Universal knew the real numbers wouldn't be published publically until yesterday.

The comments on her "correction" article are priceless.

Why might it be that Blu-Ray fans get pissed about flat out misinformation?

Oh, right. Because misinformation is the only thing HD-DVD has.

HD-DVD people get pissed at facts, Blu-Rayers get pissed at lies.

Disney's stance on the Forum is more so to prevent stalemates. The other BDA companies that are on the Forum, I believe, are all in on the hardware side of things as well, and well they feel [in my opinion, justified] that they really shouldn't weigh their opinion in on the opposing format.

Considering everything I've read up to this point, I'd have to go with the former as that is the SOP for people writing pro red articles. There just appears to be no good way to write a pro red piece without skewing something along the way.

Could be. But a true journalist wouldn't rake a source over the coals either. That source may have used her, but she may not wish to anger the source and lose them for the future. So, she would take the heat on herself and protect the source.
