Many movies do not!

LOTRs, and Lawrence of Arabia DO warrant them!

I hope they are "new"!
I think you will be safe to assume they are identical to previously released DVDs, inclusive of the disc art.

Really?

Think they will ever make an "upgrade" available with the new packaging, minus the original DVDs -- If you already own them?

That would be sweet!

I would assume you would also want it at a lower price.

In that case:

NO. They didnt do it for dvd and I wouldnt expect them to do it for the bluray.

However, if you are just dead set on not having the DVDs (like Spacedog ) then you can simply throw them away or use them as beer coasters for when you have guests.

My problem is with the redundancy and waste (trash). Throwing them away would be quite contrary to my point. You'll learn as you have your own place and try to use DVDs or CDs as beer coasters that they don't work. You really need stone or another material that can absorb the sweat.

I wasnt actually being serious.

Anyway, the set is what it is. I am happy to have the EEs in a nice package and each film spread out over two discs.

I have a "box" in our basement for DVDs replaced by Blus. It looks like the movie "Hostle" down there -- not kidding!

As much as used media stores have closed in this area, my intent is to blend my upgraded DVD sets into their blu-ray sets. For LOTR Trilogy, I'll add the movie discs and (sadly) ditch the Appendices. For other releases I blend the movie discs and the special feature discs as appropriate.

Interesting. I did the same for the Bond movies. Crammed the original DVDs in with the new Blus

I liked the Bond DVD menus, and you "never" know when you'll have only a DVD player, and get stuck with just the Blus!

Is there any word on the upcoming release of "Some Like It Hot" in terms of multiple releases?

I see the news on this site reported that "Some Like It Hot" and "The Hustler" were both carrying an MSRP of $35 indicating likely Digibooks (Hustler now confirmed as such)

I wanted to confirm the accuracy of this news as it was reported from Walmart.

Amazon has two listings for "Some Like It Hot" one without a release date or MSRP listed, and one with an MSRP for $19.99

they list two AGINs too.

Is Fox/MGM releasing "Some Like It Hot" in both a standard and Digibook release, and are they planning on doing this with future releases as well?

thanks.

Used media stores that are still open no longer give anything for films. I was offered $1 for 5 dvds.

TV shows and boxsets they still give an ok amount, but if you still have the dvd of an old film its usually not worth the gas cost to take and sell.

Also true. I'm investing in multi-disc blu boxes and shifting dvds in with blu-ray sets. Occassionally I hand DVD sets down to my nephew and neice - but lately I've been buying them the BD/DVD sets instead.

On another forum, someone claims Fox provided Gulliver's Travels and Narnia 3 with 5.1 mixes on BD, even though both were presented as 7.1 in theaters. Obviously these 2 are probably not high on many people's wishlists, but it's definitely concerning that Fox didn't go with 7.1 for the BD releases. Having just gotten a new 7.1 setup, I'm certainly eager to test it out with true 7.1 mixes. Toy Story 3 sounded incredible and I look forward to Tron Legacy.

I just hope Fox doesn't make this a habit on future titles that get 7.1 audio during their theatrical release.

I do this all the time as well-- some of my old dvd's I give to friends, some I stick the dvd inside the blu ray case, and some I keep just the extra dvd of "special features" if the blu-ray skimps....

greetings everyone

I'm sorry for my long absence, but I had no time for forums or anything else that becomes a continual distraction Suffice to say I spent 2 fun filled days in Haneda airport, followed by long waits for trains, before finally arriving in Maebashi prefecture at my friend's house over 3 days after leaving home, and without even taking of my shoes.

Following this was a complete rejiggering of my entire meeting schedule, and tracking down my friends (one of whom had a baby amidst the chaos, congrats again, you know who you are). By the time I actually arrived back in Tokyo, I was already running on half a tank at best, and I still had 2 weeks of meetings to go. Between panicked emails from my mother as the US news media blew the latest events into godzilla size proportions (my chief translator was working at the plant at the time of the quake, yes he's OK, but we look forward to seeing whether his ukelele will mutate into a guitar by the time he an collect it again)

Aside from some rolling blackouts, and shortages of drinks and general stock in convienince stores ( the stock was being shipped north), life pretty quickly returned to normal.

I had almost 25 meetings with major studios, animation houses, manga publishers, music labels, CEs etc and I saw a lot of cool stuff, including the Toshiba glasses free Tv (It works, as long as you don't move more than a few inches, and don't mind about a 27" screen). I saw some demos that might remain Japan only due to licensing restrictions, but IMO they should have them on every TV worldwide. I've seen the Ghost in the Shell 3D (a few scenes in a screening room), basically they just took the CG elements and did the other eye render, the rest is pretty flat.

I appreciate those like Penton who tried to call, but CDMA (Verizon, Sprint) doesn't really work in Japan, and the rates are ludicrous so I had a rental phone I think my computer at home might have been checking in when it popped on to DVR something, dunno

Anyway, thanks to everyone for the concern, sorry it just kinda slipped my mind to hit here with everything else going on. Apologies for the concerns and lack of contact, I need a vacation now from my "vacation"

Well thanks for the heads-up and glad to hear everything is more or less all right, Jeff.
