Default Portable Blu-Ray player

We have been searching the market for a decent portable blu-ray player at an affordable price.

Is there anything you are aware of?

Sony make one or two... as an added bonus they can be used as computers too, they even have a keyboard built in .

This is what bothers me - the assumption people want a portable blu-ray player so they can "see" the difference. I want a portable blu-ray player so I don't have to buy 2 versions of a movie for my daughter - 1 for the house and 1 non-blu-ray for the portable.

People need to start thinking convenience of 1 format player versus assuming blu-ray should only be used when you can see a difference.

No. A Blu-ray equipped notebook PC is the only option at the moment. Panasonic has shown a Blu-ray equipped head-unit designed for vehicle use, but it's not yet available. No one has shown a true portable BD player... though 1 or more could be shown at CES this week.

I don't disagree. Certainly, I don't think most people intend to do most of their Blu-ray viewing on a 10" screen, but having that as an option is certainly nice. It also would be nice to have a portable player to show off Blu-ray to other people on their home systems. Again, we'll have to see what CES brings, but I'm afraid we may still be a year away from portable players being truly feasible. At the moment, the laptop-sized drive mechanisms are all burners (and thus quite expensive), and the amount of battery power necessary to even get through one movie is a lot.

Just bought an Acer laptop with Blu-Ray player $999 at BB. Awesome thing... But there are various degrees of portability... So maybe 8 lbs 17" is not portable enough...

Guys, first of all, a BIG welcome to the forum. In here you will find tons of help regarding any questions you may have. The search function is your friend but if it gets too cumbersome or you need an urgent answer, its ok to post your own thread. Don't get too caught up on what other people say sometimes about how "another one of these threads, blah blah blah". Remember, we were all noobs once except for WickyWoo, lol. He was born the wisest of them all

I am in the same boat. With an infant that will be watching movies soon, I need a portable player as well. I'd hate to get 2 copies for traveling purposes. But just be patient. Once this war is over (CES '08? Anyone?) more players, choices will come to the market. Its inevitable.

In the mean time, enjoy your blu-ray movies at home, in the comfort of the couch

Glad to see they are getting more laptops out there with Blu in them. I got my Sony with Blu a few months ago at BB and could not be happier. Enjoy your laptop.

+1 It's a compatibility issue. I would like to bring my movies on the road with me, regardless of what format it is.

Thanks!
The funny thing is that I bought it because it was the cheapest Vista Ultimate, 2GB, Intel, 17", GeForce 8400M, 802.11N laptop I could find... and the Blu-Ray drive was just a very pleasant surprise...
