Instead of a remake how about a restoration of the original on blu. The blu that is out now looks like someone recorded the VHS onto a dvd. At first I had to check to make sure I didn't put the standard dvd copy that came with the blu in the player by mistake.

Hell, I'd go see it. I've never experinced child's play in theaters. I wouldn't necessarily mind if it sucked. It would bring back some nostalgia.

Default Chucky Returns in Child's Play Reboot

Source: http://movies.ign.com/articles/115/1157785p1.html

With legal issues resolved, everyone's favorite murderous doll can kill again.

We've gotten Jason, Freddy and Leatherface reboots. So why not Chucky?

Movieweb reports that the little homicidal mold of plastic will be returning to cinemas soon, now that MGM has cleared up some legal issues surrounding the character.

"The remake had been in development for several years, with a script already written by Don Mancini, who also wrote all the previous movies in the Chucky franchise," says the site. "The hold-up on the remake was apparently due to rights issues by MGM and Universal. MGM has the rights to the original Child's Play, while Universal retained rights to the sequels. Apparently, a deal has been made between the two studios."

Production reportedly will begin later this year, with Brad Dourif returning to voice Chucky. Which automatically makes the film sound like a sequel rather than a reboot, but MW says unconfirmed talk is that the picture will be "more of a reboot, with a darker tone and less comedic elements."
Quite looking forward to it myself, what with the sequels going down hill a bit.

Got to agree I have been looking forward to a Chucky reboot for since it has been announced and happy that it's finally moving forward.

Only problem is that Chucky has been broke for a long time now and is in need of a fixing IMO.

I'll add my list...

Hills Have Eye's remake - better than the original
Let Me In remake - better than the original
Dawn of the Dead remake - better than the original
Rob Zombie's Halloween 1 - not as good as the original, but I love it
A Nightmare on Elm Street remake - not as good as the original
Friday the 13th remake - not as good as the original
The Thing remake - better than the original
Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake - about on par with the original

So to me, its about even in terms of good one's and bad one's. I actually have high hope's for Child's Play remake (Child's Play is one of fav horror film's and the first horror I ever saw) and to hear its going for a darker tone and less comedy is a very good thing, as I hate Seed and Bride of Chucky.

Really looking forward to see where they go with this and I'll buy it regardless.

I love the original, and as long as Brad Dourif is in, I'll be excited to see it.

Why are there so many bloody remakes of 80's movies all of a sudden Lethal Weapon, Robocop, Child's Play, the 80's weren't that long ago.

Part of the problem is that the movie industry has changed. Hollywood has the idea that if your film isn't expensive, people won't see it. That makes original ideas very hard to come by. Horror flicks aren't a proven box office draw, so instead of spending 8 million on an original one, it's easier to spend 50 million on a remake in hopes that the name will be the draw When that doesn't happen, horror goes into a lapse for a few years. and reboots will return. (IE Friday the 13th didn't do well enough, but you bet your ass another reboot will happen soon enough.)

There are exceptions of course. The Saw franchise and Paranormal Activity are two of the biggest. Cheap movies that did well. The problem is that, once a horror film establishes itself as a franchise, they milk it for all it's worth. Instead of spacing Saw out of a few years in between each sequel, they burned themselves out with seven in a row.

Because Hollywood is dried up of original ideas. If they aren't remaking foreign movies they are raiding their own previous successes.

It also modernizes them for a whole new fan base to relate to.

However using CGI for everything is really lame and cheap. I miss the puppets and real props and explosions from the 80s.
