Having seen these films a disgusting number of times, ive only managed to do them all in one day just the once, but that was only the EE's of the FOTR and TTT and off to the cinema for ROTK on night of release. I think every LOTR fan should try it at least once in their lifetime. Ill have to give it a shot when I get hold of these versions.

I don't think I could sit down and watch them all in one sitting. I did watch them over a two day period once. As a matter of fact.... I've only watched television for 11+ hours that one time I watched all of Season 2 of True Blood without ever leaving the couch!

I am going to go see Star Wars in 3D in the theatres. I especially am interested in Ep. 4 when there is a point-of-view shot of a rebel fighter going into the trench (?) or canyon-like channel on the Death Star. Lucas used that shot twice in Ep. 4.

I can't watch the EE's in one sitting, it is too brutal. I try to savor the experience by watching one disc per day over six consecutive days. It keeps the viewing fresh and gives you something too forward to for almost a week.

Anyway, on topic....I won't be there for a re-release in theaters for Lord Of The Ring in 3D. I wil be quite happy with the Blu-ray release of the extended version.
George Lucas has just as much right to modify Star Wars as Peter Jackson has the right to convert Lord of the Rings to 3D. My only issue with George Lucas is his refusal to release the original versions. Jackson is nice enough to give fans the choice of any version of Lord of the Rings and as I said any future 3D release will have a 2D version. Choice is good

For years this was (and will be again now that the EE blus are coming) also my around Christmas viewing that I looked forward to (I have held off the last few years as I mentioned which was hard!). Looks like this year it will be a mid summer AND Christmas viewing! I know I sound like a broken record, but man I am excited for these! I have been looking forward to this announcement since first getting a blu ray player years ago!

Thanks for the feedback/thoughts everyone who responded as far as watching them in one sitting. Chances are I will break it up over 2 nights again since sitting there for that long might be hard for me to do. I also like Grand Bob's idea of watching one disc per night over 6 nights..........LOTR week has a nice ring to it! I might give that a shot as well during one of my 2 viewings that will happen this year.

They are one of the most anticipated blu-ray releases in the history of the format. Heck - after I got the Alien series(1 and 2 anyways), Star Wars, and a few other favs...my collection as far as catalog titles is concerned is basically complete.

As for one sitting - we usually do them broken up over a 3 -night period with small intermissions during the films. If there is one thing I loved about the DVD EE release was that the "insert second disc" message came up at the perfect time when viewing the films. Lets you sit back for a minute, maybe even discuss a few things before finishing up. Excellent.

Just a heads up - I checked the Amazon UK site for this set and with standard shipping it would cost $78.xx bucks to my door if I buy it through Amazon UK. The US release is a good $20-ish bucks more. Hmm....might just have to take this set from the UK instead.

IDK where you got those prices but the U.S. set is 83.99 and with conversion the UK set is 86.45 (Based on XE conversion). Plus you'll undoubtedly have to wait another week or two since it won't even ship out till the day it releases (and gets delivered) here.

Hmmm... I used a google currency converter and with standard shipping came up with $78.xx to my door.

As for the US, Im in NYS so I get stuck with !@#$% sales tax which "tax" on about $8 more bucks and gets it over $90.xx to my door. I realize that not everyone has to pay sales tax at Amazon but NY never met a tax they didnt fall in love with so we get screwed.

You might be right about waiting a little longer though. Oh well.

XE is the best converter site I've ever found. Right now both versions are the same price (basically) but with the UK version you have a longer wait, and will undoubtedly have those horrendous rating logos on the front.

Now if Amazon.uk does what they normally do and drops it to say 40 pounds or less, I would wait the extra week or two to save $20, but otherwise I'll keep my Amazon.com pre-order.

I agree with you, except I did watch all the EE's during one Saturday. I will never do that again however! My brain and body was half dead at the end!Last year, I watched a LOTR movie every week for 3 weeks. It may sound lazy, but I like to mix in other movies as well to keep them fresh. It worked much better and helped keep me into the story.

The movies are not only lengthy, but event-filled and intense - to fully appreciate them requires almost constant attention. Spreading them out and watching other movies inbetween sounds like a great idea. I may give that a try this year.
