Default Wal-Mart going HD-DVD exclusive (slashdot comment)

I haven't seen anything about this, but I do normally find more informed posts on Slashdot than on Digg, etc. However, no source so I am bringing the question here. I know I've heard this rumor before, but I have yet to see anything of substance. Any thoughts?

Some guy on there echos my sentiment, what/where is the source for that info? So far the crickets are chriping = masturbation material for the foolish. Don't worry about unconfirmed crap.

An anonymous unattributed statement that Wal-Mart's going HD-DVD exclusive? There's nothing to think about.

If one thing is clear from the myriad of anecdotal Wal-Mart posts, it's that Wal-Mart has no grand unified theory of hi-def media marketing.

Sorry, just read the response. Until it hits the wires it's all mindless speculation anyways. Let that topic creator at slashdot have his/her fun.

Take a look around you local walmart and see how much is Red and how much is Blu

Online they currently sell more Blu Rays (300) then HD DUDs (283).

Hey bilbravo, it's been a good hour since you asked for a source. I believe it is appropriate to laugh at the TC, in fact continue to call him out until he/she "proFUduces."

Wal-mart will never do something stupid as going HD-DVD elusive when they have nothing to gain but customers to lose.Wal-mart will wait this format war out before making any kind of move like that.

Ok I read the idiot's comments. His context is this.

Another moron did an article back in April of '07
http://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback184.html

That moron stated
Quote:
It means that any studio wanting Wal-Mart’s support after year end had better be selling HD DVD movies. Wal-Mart won’t be promoting Blu-Ray and, after year end, will increasingly focus their marketing on getting people to buy into HD DVD players and the related HD DVD movie from them.
And this....

Quote:
So, if this move by Wal-Mart is true , and it appears to be (but we won’t know for sure for a few months yet), the format war is likely over and Wal-Mart has declared the winner.
BTW - I read another article from this idiot from I think 12/06 where he said hd-dvd will win, and blu-ray will be gone by the end of 2007. Yeah, how did that work out for ya?

No offense but are we still in first grade? Just because you clearly dislike a format you should call it by it's name, instead of some tease name HD DUDs, Gay-Ray, etc. It's not very professional.

Spartan,

Thanks for your comment.

I prefer to call them HD DUD's though. It's the perfect description for them.

So,.. deal with it.

This must be why Walmart is advertising blu-rays in a bunch of magazines. Sure makes sense to me.

Pretty much my view on it. Right now, WalMart's role in the HDM isn't really that big either way.

Most of the folks buying HDM now are buying from the CES chains [Best Buy is the big one now, neh?]. And the shelf-space issue for WalMart on these titles is a bit of a different beast.

Anyway, will believe it when I see it. Until then, I really don't believe it either way.
