gotcha

and hopefully i do enjoy it and understand it more on my next viewing. i know it won't be a 5/5 because i still think the film has some flaws, but if i can understand it, then i should enjoy it more.

as for what i wrote before, what i see a lot is, "so i just saw Blade Runner. found it boring. didn't like it." and then people scream out: "WHAT?! Blade Runner is a masterpiece! a classic! eternal! the holy grail of sci-fi! you wouldn't know an amazing film if it bit you in the ass! if you don't like Blade Runner, why even bother watching films?!?!?!?!?!" as if, because it's regarded as a classic, it should be loved by all. but of course, that would make for a boring world.

but yes, if someone disliked it because they didn't "get" it or missed an important part of the puzzle (like me with Black Swan apparently ) then they definitely should watch it again, because otherwise, that score and feelings on the film i don't really think hold any weight.

it would be like if there's a classic book and if someone drew some pictures to go with the writing and someone just saw the pictures and disliked the book without actually reading the book and getting the details and whatnot. their score means nothing because they didn't actually understand what was being shown / told.

of course with Tangled, i could always like it more next time, but with that type of film there is nothing to "get" unlike Black Swan. like how you put it

Well with all of Disney's films like that, either you connect with the main characters or you don't. Tangled to me was awesome, it's okay if you don't like it too much. Most people think Toy Story 3 was incredible, I consider it the 3rd best film in that trilogy and the 5th best animated film last year out of the ones I saw.

Did you like the scene in the bar in Tangled? With all the badasses going into a
[Show spoiler]Broadway Musical number?... I have a Dream..LMAO

Did you like the horse in Tangled? I thought he was cool.

the more i think of it, the animated films i do like, mainly have a male main character (Pixar) and the animated films i dislike / have little interested in have a female main character (Disney). and the two Disney films i absolutely do love, have male main characters (The Lion King, Aladdin). weird. because i don't have a problem with female main characters (Resident Evil films, The Descent, Easy A, The Orphanage, Alice in Wonderland among others) but maybe it's just the whole "princess" aspect of it i don't connect with.

I get the feeling you're not going to like Brave. Eugene was a main character also in Tangled, I think he was almost in as much of the film as Rapunzel was and he develops a lot himself over the course of the movie. Try connecting with him a bit the next time you fire it up.

ya know. at first when the
[Show spoiler]song
started i went: but in the middle of the song i started to chuckle and by the end i really enjoyed it and actually went back and watched it again.

yes. the horse (what was his name? started with an M i think....) was pretty cool and at times reminded me of Kevin from Up (mainly when Rapunzel
[Show spoiler]wanted the horse and "guy with six different names" to get along and not fight
).

but Pascal stole the show!

true. i did enjoy the dialogue and quirky humor they had for him while other characters had the more slapstick humor in the film. he had some pretty damn funny lines and that Zachary guy that voiced him did a great job with line delivery.

I loved the sentient horse, the frying pan violence, the unlikely but expected romance and of course, the all powerful evil witch. I dunno, I guess I do like girlie Disney movies, not sure why.

I tend to like Disney films with animals more than Disney films with princesses. I love Ratatouille and Bambi for example, but got rid of Princess and the Frog.

With Miyazaki animation, it's different. The characters seem deeper, so I am into them more.

We were supposed to role our eyes at the bar scene. Its so ridiculous that its awesome. The mime.....LMAO.

Pascal was a riot. Yeah, yeah, hit him again with the frying pan.

I loved it when Rapunzel went all Jack Bauer on Flynn.
[Show spoiler]She beat the sh!t out of him and stuffed his ass in the closet. I was rolling.

I don't think it's as bad as everyone claims. Sure, the original "Day the Earth Stood Still" is a grade better in many ways, but the remake has some interesting ideas. Comparing the two ought to be as interesting as comparing the 60s and 70s versions of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Or the 60s and 80s versions of "The Thing."
It's been a while since I saw the original, so I can't say for certain which I like better, but I really enjoy both. Keanu makes for a fantastic emotionless alien

I thought Eckhart was darn near perfect.
Ledger is still my favorite performance of the film...but Eckhart is just so good as Dent. He is the heart of the movie after all.

[Show spoiler]I popped this in last weekend, and became mostly background viewing while I posted all that James Bond stuff. From what I saw though, it looked gorgeous! The imagery is about as strong and vivid as “LOTR,” with lots of stunning fantasy settings and setpieces, an incredible animation style, and some really cool battles and action scenes. As expected, the eye candy is good!

The story is a little typical, but not quite as trite as I expected. In fact, it took some twists and turns that I totally did not expect, and parts of it really had me thrilled. I wouldn’t say that the characters caught my interest that much; there are a lot of quirky and silly side characters, and the main characters didn’t seem terribly deep to me. They all operate in an interesting mythos, but I never really got that much engrossed in it.

The film shows awesome quality, with beautiful animation style and quality. The shots are well-composed, the settings are very detailed and vivid, the owls look awesome, and the production designs are strong. Voice-acting seems strong. Music is okay.

4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 3.5/5, film: 4.5/5)

This Blu-Ray looks and sounds darn near perfect!

PQ: 5/5, AQ: 5/5
I haven't seen this movie...but I have a funny story about it.

A friend of mine was TRYING to talk about it one day and all he could think of was that it was about owls. (Side note: Now, this same friend is taking Western Civilization right now and learning about the stories from a long time ago) Well, he finally managed to think of the name:

"Oh I remember! It's called The Guardians of Gilgamesh!!!"

Not even close....but hilarious.

[Show spoiler]not saying that anyone does the following, but something i've picked up on from this site (and maybe it's everywhere and just haven't noticed because all my friends suck at watching as many movies as i and we all do here) is that when a well known, or well liked movie comes out and some doesn't like it, the general consensus is: "well go watch it again" and "read about it then watch it again", or "once you read this and understand it then you will love it", which i find funny, irksome, and slightly puzzling / annoying.

now, yes, some films require more than one viewing to understand, but that's not always the case. and yes, sometimes you just find yourself liking (or disliking) a film more and more with subsequent viewings, but it seems like if someone dislikes something on the first viewing, once they watch it again, they will instantly like it a lot. which of course, couldn't possibly be always true, but it seems like has that effect with some. almost like a mental placebo:

"okay. people said if i watch this again i will like it."

90-120 minutes later

"holy crap! i love this!"

of course, this isn't 100% of the time, but i think some of you get where i'm coming from
I didn't like your post. I'll come back and read it tomorrow and see if I like it.

Eh... I wasn't too impressed with Tangled. There was something missing for me. It lacked that certain magic you get when watching Pixar movies and classic Disney films. It came off as sort of a Disney wannabe. The character Rapunzel was perfectly formed and there were some well-made scenes here and there, but the songs and supporting characters weren't up to par with Disney standards.

well put! it felt like, aside from a few aspect of it, that Disney kind of mailed this one in. it didn't feel like it had the heart and effort that Pixar puts in their films (or some previous Disney films or other animated films). which is a shame and puzzling since it's their 50th animated full length feature.
