I loved parts 1 & 3, and I didn't like part 2... But it's been a while, and the ratings are pretty good, for all three of them. Should I buy them all, including part 2? Hell it's been like 8 years since I seen this movie.

Buy them all. A lot of people like part 2 the best. I dunno, I probably like Part I the best but to each his own. Just remember you need the Dutch release for Blade I because the Canadian is incorrect aspect ratio. Blade II and Blade Trinity Canadian are good to go, though. Trinity notes incorrect AR on the box but the box is wrong and it is OAR.

I'm not so sure the quality of the releases would've been any better given their price points. I have all 3 and after comparing them with other topnotch transfers (I Robot, Avatar and the UnderWorld Trilogy), I did not see or hear a night and day difference. Now, I'm not saying the transfers are perfect. All I'm saying is for the money, bang for the buck, you can't expect much more than what's being offered by Alliance at this juncture.

Outside of Blade 1's AR issue, everything else about the releases is spot on in my opinion. So go ahead and live a little. If you want a clearer picture and cleaner sound --- then make the investment. If you're waiting on New Line or Warner don't hold your breath.

Here are my numerical assessments:
Blade: Picture 4.5, Sound 3.5
Blade 2: Picture 4, Sound 4.5 (did not lose that enveloping surround sound I enjoyed so much with the DVD release)
Blade Trinity: Picture 4.5 Sound 4

Note: On all 3 Blu-ray releases, the bass is not as forward and strong but good enough so that you don't lose any emotional impact. Actually, the bass on the DVD releases was a bit over the top in my opinion.

Anyways, this is going to be a heads up for anyone interested in these movies. In terms of PQ Blade is 3.5/5 (Way too much grain), Blade 2 is 3/5, (even more grain) and Blade Trinity is 4/5 (some grain, not as bad). Trust me on the scores, these are honest scores I am giving you guys in terms of the PQ. I just wish they could have done more. This is not the best the series can look. Its a shame cause really, these movies are not that old and they deserve a cleaner transfer.

So if anyone is buying or pre ordered them, hope this out.

I'm not sure what you mean. Blade has not been released yet or at least not that I know of. Or are you talking about the Allience copy from Canada? Because I thought the Allience copy looks ok other then the fact that it's not the OAR. I plan to upgrade my copy when it comes out in the states but IMO it better then the DVD for now. Also Blade 2 & 3 are in OAR and they look pretty darn good I have no intent to upgrade them.

Amazon.com (which I am assuming you used) brings in the Alliance Blu-rays from time to time, very similar to how Amazon.ca brings in the US releases of some releases.

Oh, sorry. Yeah, the Canadian ones will work fine on your US Player. All three North American's Countries (Canada, USA, Mexico) are Region A so releases from any of these three (plus other Region A countries) will work without issues.

This is not OAR, just FYI. You have to go with the Dutch version if you want the movie to be in the correct aspect ration. Blade II and Trinity Canadian are OAR but the original Blade is not.

I loved all 3 films and, yes, there is something to love/hate in all of them. Overall, however, this is one trilogy that I want in my BD collection! I must admit though that I had a lot more fun with the second and third installments. The first one is mostly expository in nature so a lot of movie time is spent showing how things got to where they got. I think it kind of weighs the movie down. By the time we get to the second (and third) features, this is no longer necessary and the directors take us right into the mindless, but fun, action. These movies are not meant to be taken seriously. Nonetheless, they are such guilty pleasures that why quibble over their cinematic worth? Relax, go for the ride, and enjoy... LOL

Are the Canadian BDs being sold by Amazon any good?

I own all 3 (since they were $5 each at one time), & am very fond of the Blade 2 BRD. Blade 1 looks good despite its cropped transfer, & Blade 3 also looks pretty fine, though I really don't care for that film very much.

FYI, the 1st film will be getting a nice steelbook from Alliance in the next couple months.

Rhylliam.. do you know if the steelbook for Blade 1 will be the same transfer (ie: wrong aspect ratio)? I own the trilogy set, but would upgrade this one if its a better transfer.

I am certain it will be the exact same disc. Alliance & Warner are merely re-packaging old discs into steelbooks, much like how Fox is with upcoming digibooks.

Default Is the "Blade" steelbook the same version?

Amazon.ca is releasing the Blade steelbook (from Alliance) on May 31. Does anyone know if this is the same version that's currently available in the standard case or is this an upgraded version?
