Disney Cars 2 3D Blu-ray (2011) [Region Free]

OK, so maybe it's a little premature to talk about a 3D BD release, but here's hoping I watched the 3D trailer for it at the beginning of another movie (I think it was Tangled?) and WOW, it sure looks nice. I'm not sure if any of you are gearheads, but if so you may remember Dave Deal. He was a prolific artist whose caricatures of cars were featured in many of the 60's & 70's "CARtoons" magazines as well as many hot rodding magazines. Even today if you thumb through Motor Trend you're likely to find his work in an ad or two. He also designed the Deal's Wheels car models of the 60's & 70's. He was a good friend of mine and he passed away not too long ago of cancer. What you might not know is that he generated the character designs for Cars and Cars 2 (in sketch form) and worked with Pixar to tweak them into the animated versions. It's a shame he wasn't able to see this 2nd movie in completed form, especially in full 3D glory I'm looking forward to its release at the theaters this summer, and hopefully a home 3D release later this year, fingers crossed

Yeah I reckon it'll be a November release! But remember we also have Lion King and Nightmare Before Christmas..so it might be a 2012 release.

I was underwhelmed by the preview. There was nothing there to make me want to see the movie and the 3D did not stand out at all.

It's not so much geared towards adults that's for sure, but my son really loved the first one and as a result I couldn't help but love it as well The thing I really liked about this trailer was all the neon colors against dark backgrounds in the Tokyo scenes, that just struck a chord with me similar to the original Tron. I also liked how the 3D was used to give the scenes a lot of depth, there wasn't a lot of pop-out in the trailer but there may be in the movie.

Disney announced that both would be released on 3D BD this year. See the below article, it lists some of the other promised releases as well:

So far, Pixar seems to be in the subtle 3D camp. Toy Story 3 was nice but subtle.

Does this mean that we know for a fact that cars 2 wont be an exclusive?
Also, has anyone seen Priest yet and would care to leave a comment? The trailer looked awesome so I've hyped it up in my head for a while now.

I don't think I'd ever heard of Cars 2 being an exclusive- Disney hasn't done any exclusive in a while. But it WILL be the first Pixar blu release, so hopefully Toy Stories and Up will follow.

I don't think Priest is out yet here in the US. Looks like fun but who knows.

I don't think it's out anywhere, just wondering if anyone saw it in 3D at the theaters. But come to think of it, maybe it's not even out in the theaters yet, don't know for sure.

Theaters is what I was referring to. Opens in the US tomorrow.

They seem to be very early release announcements as none of those movies have been released in theaters yet (Cars 2, Pirates 4, or Priest).
Thought it was cool to see them listed nevertheless

Was going to see Priest this weekend but it didn't do well at all on RottenT and judging by the low amount of reviews it might not have been screened for critics at large. I'll wait for a BD release and save my dough for the Pirates movie next weekend.

I saw it yesterday. I didn't like it nearly as much as the first one. I was having a hard time getting into it, and I was getting bored at times. It had some fun action towards the end though. And it did look really good. I especially loved how the racing scenes looked. Wish there would have been more on the race track footage.

Felt like by highlighting Mater rather than McQueen they definitely chose to tell a story for kids and kids only, which Pixar doesn't usually resort to.
But this felt like Pixar bowing to massive Disney pressure.
For all that, it was fun enough, though it joins the bottom of my pixar list.

I usually have a policy of boycotting 3D movies given 2D only Blu-Rays. I made my only exception for Toy Story 3. Toy Story 3 was a masterpeice and was simply too great a movie not to own. So even though I was very dissipointed Disney didn't give us a 3D option on the first Blu-Ray I purchased it anyway and I settled for reference quality 2D.

Cars 2 on the other hand was not up to Pixar's usual quality. It was easily Pixar's weakest movie and if this also gets a 2D only release it will be fairly easy to avoid. I might pic this one up if Disney gives us a great 3D release at a fair price but only then.

I really wanted to like it, but the story was far too bland and cliche' and the attempts at humor fell totally flat IMO. It was a feast for the eyes, but I found it hard to stay awake despite the flashy graphics. My 8 y.o. son loved it and my 17 y.o. daughter thought I was being too hard on it, she liked it fine. I'll probably get it for them if/ when it comes out on 3DBD.
