Winn was "guessing" the leaked #s for weeks before people figured out that vaughn was giving him the #s on wednesday and then posting it himself later. I would pretty much bank on those #s, but thats just me =)

DV has been known to leave subtle (or not-so-subtle) hints. I wouldn't read too much into it, but it is mighty curious why he would stop reporting the numbers after CES :X And I agree that the only reason could be WB going blu since then the numbers won't really matter anymore since the HD DVD fate will be sealed. Let's wait and see what happens, but also not expect too much from this "hint".

DV has said that it is the holiday schedule that is delaying numbers by a day this week and last.

If he knew they were going Blu, then he would've given up his "BD-50 yield rate" arguments on HDD by now.

We know that in recent weeks Microsoft made a very serious attempt to buy off Warner. It's likely that those aware of this were simply pouring fuel on the fire to try to shore up HD DVD's feeble position and persuade Warner to change their minds.

Whatever, the plan seems to have failed. I will not be shocked to see an official statement from Warner after the markets close on Friday evening.

maybe, but the last few weeks it was clearly stated he wasn't getting help and he hasn't been right the last few weeks (go look, he picked 72:38 for the last contest)

I'm not saying he's always right or knows everything, but he does have access to some data that we don't. So, I'm just saying perhaps he knows something. But it could just turn out it's nothing and we're reading too much into it :P

I hope that you are very correct that Warner had already made the decision and that only limited insiders know. Maybe this is why Bill Gates himself will try a last ditch effort at CES to pledge his support for HD-DVD with the 360 Ultimate. All guesses and speculations of course but it's fun.

I have not had early numbers except for one week. I was going to keep going with that as a joke, but it was figured out right away by someone.

Did I? I really don't remember what I guessed last week as I just slapped a number down and ran off.

In short, my guesses are my own. More often, they are those of my dice, whatever TV channel I am watching, the most recent phone call I received or, this week, my nephew's.

Be glad my nephew was around at 4 today. If he wasn't, my leading thought was to post an HD DVD win to mess with your heads.

Not to offend you Winn, but I only trust DV's numbers. But I know you work hard over there to tally up all the ppl's votes and what not so kudos to you in that regard. Welcome to the blu forum also!

Clarifications:

- DV will be leaking the numbers this week and next (well, in reality, that's last week and this week, but you the idea). Then he says he's done, though he's said that before.

- He should be getting them tomorrow afternoon.

- Winn doesn't know the numbers right now.

- DV has as much of a clue as to Warner's intentions as you or I.

- The Oprah Effect (with regards to PE) is real - if you recall, we saw it earlier this spring/summer. The Week ending May 6 (2nd week of release), PE was 95:100 HD favor. The following week Oprah haucked it, and HD shot out to a 2:1 lead on it for the next couple months. BD gradually took over by the end of summer, got to the point where it had surpassed HD easily, and then Oprah haucked it again for Christmas, and it shot up on HD again. Whatever reason for the Oprah-positive-for-hddvd effect, it's quite real. Actually, looking back, higher volume in general (due to initial release, Oprah, Christmas, whatever) seems to favor hddvd when it comes to that title. Probably gives some credence to the "Ill-Informed-RegularDVD-Buyer" theory.

I thought Blu Ray already won 52 strait weeks because the last time HD DUD won a week was a week before X-mass in 06.

The issue is if they won ALL of 2007, and I'm sure they did. I think the won a year thing is already done.

True, but it's nice to win the whole of 2007 anyway.

I'm glad Winn's numbers weren't genuine. I really expect to see Blu-ray over 60% share (even with all the HD DVD deals flying around).
