Default HDMI switcher/repeater question

If I purchase an HDMI switcher with 2 inputs, do they simply carry the signal through without concern for the direction of the signal? This may sound confusing but what I need is to take one HDMI input (say from my PS3) and use the switcher as a selectable output (1 in, 2 out). I have my projector and TV running off of the same component stack.

Can I use a standard HDMI switcher for this function or will it not allow me to select between to different outputs simply by reversing the way it is traditionally setup? Or will it only output a signal from the 1 ouput port?

have never tried it that way...but sounds like it should work.

since switchers can be found for pretty cheap, sure why not give it a try.

Yeah I suppose I could always pick one up for $100 and take it back if it does not work.

although im not sure if the inputs have actual "receiver" chips and the output has a "transmitter" chip...allowing for only those actions?

not sure if switchers have any of these chips?

Yeah I do like mono but I'll likely have to return it and I live in Canada which is a huge pain and a lot of waiting.
