Um, no. Warner was also releaseing to HD DVD that whole time (including several very important "exclusives"). Universal has blown its wad early in the format war, and Paramount doesn't have as deep of a catalog (although still some nice titles), plus the publicity will be very strong in BD's favor. If WB goes BD exclusive, all the big box stores will drop HD DVD before the end of Q3 of this year, if not substantially sooner.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of hurdles to get over to make pure digital distribution of games work especially on a console, but MS is 100% behind it and that is what they are working on. That is their vision of the future. A lot can happen in 3 years and time will tell if the public buys into it. For movies, I'm a collector so I want a physical disc with art, a case, etc. For games, I might be more open to download games. |

DV must have the numbers now, so, why so shy this week?
No poems? No unsubtle comments or quips about the numbers being 'surprising' or 'interesting'? My guess is that Blu-ray gave HD DVD a pretty good beating this week after all. 65%+ is what I'm hoping to see. He's promised Winn the numbers this week at some point. The longer he takes the worse it probably is for HD DVD. Hopefully. ![]() |

HD DUD lost,.. that's all that matters.
But it will be fun to see how much. The magazine that reports the results did a summary article type of thing like they do every week and they mentioned Pirates AWE was the top seller for Blu Ray and something was the top seller for that other format. If HD DUD won the first week in the entire year then they would have likely mentioned that in the article. link... http://www.homemediamagazine.com/new...ticle_ID=11809 =Brian |

That's lame. BD zealots can try to spin the lack of featureset as a "who cares" scenario to keep hardware costs down. Well... that featureless samsung player wasn't exactly cheap... and neither are the high-end players that lack 1.1 and 2.0. web features matter to Universal and to Warner, and to many consumers. For that reason, they should matter to the BDA. I'm stating this as a consumer who personally isn't interested in PIP or 2.0 web features. My personal preference isn't the point: there are consumers who care. And universal and warner are right: if you don't make it mandatory in the player, then how can a software vendor impliment the feauture reliably? "regular consumers" can't be expected to research the details of required and optional specifications when the shop for players. They should be able to buy a player and have it work and provide the full featureset of their software. Simple as that. Last edited by DaViD Boulet; 01-03-2008 at 10:04 PM. |

I think Blu kicked the snot out of Red this week... I am going to guess it was 66-34. All the new BD players out there, and from what I've seen and heard last week, this number sounds right. Next week's numbers will really be a thrashing!
