Watched "White Material" last night, and thought it was amazingly powerful...... It's going on the "Recommended" list for sure.

Is there a reason that someone would need to carry this information around with them? Bragging rights? Personal accomplishment? Something to drool over while they're away from their precious Criterion discs?
As far as the essays on-the-go... they're pretty much all available on Criterion's site for reading under each specific title. So, if someone have a smartphone I'm pretty sure they're gonna have access to the internet on their phone and reading the essays through your phone's browser wouldn't be any different than reading the essays through some kind of phone application.

As far as a CC cover collection/gallery (featuring old artwork on titles where artwork has been updated... Criterion doesn't even do that on their own main website, so what would compel them to do this for a phone application? This is something that a really devoted Criterion nerd/phone nerd would have to create and share with others because I could never see it coming directly from Criterion.

HTC EVO. The Android OS is a powerhouse because it's all Google created.
For the 3 bolded statements above...

1. That's exactly what I was aiming for.
2. The app would have them all in one centralized location, instead of having to search CC's site and have to have each page load, etc...
3. Anyone, anyone??

And yes, the Android OS is something that, while working at BB, I have heard nothing but great things about. The Motorola Xoom, I heard, trumps the iPad 2 in processor speed and since Apple won't enable Flash player, the Android devices have that over Apple as well when surfing the web. Working at BB, I get my phone for free (still awaiting its arrival) and get an unlimited data plan for working in the computer dept. (just started there last month). So, I am excited to start using it when I get it...

I assume you like yours a lot?

While this is true, I can say that the website (especially in its most recent iteration) is not very mobile friendly. Perhaps the answer would be for Criterion to add mobile functionality to their website. There are definitely times when I have wanted access to the information on their site while I am out and about. Of course, I have no idea how difficult something like that would be to make.

Watched it twice in the theater and bought the Artificial Eye Blu-Ray on day one (it wasn't on Criterion's schedule yet). Claire Denis is one of the best living directors, recommend all of her films (Beau Travail and The Intruder being the highlights - i guess)

According to that recent article online, which was taken from the conversation of the criterionforum.org user, Criterion is passing on it, right? This was the conversation/article about "Tiny Furniture."

Quote:
... according to this report, Criterion’s own Peter Becker found Abbas Kiarostami’s latest film, CERTIFIED COPY, to be “minor Kiarostami,” ultimately meaning that the film will not be getting it’s day in the Collection.

I'm hoping it's just a rumor. For a short while many thought Anti Christ was being passed on so maybe. . .

I'm not sure anyone else would have dared to touch Antichrist...whereas the popularity of Binoche (who has a forthcoming US production, The Son of No One, and a French production, Sponsoring, due out in France this year), and the non-explicit content all but guarantees a Stateside release of Copie conforme--or alternatively, you could import the region-free UK Blu-ray from Artificial Eye.

FWIW, it doesn't seem like Kiarostami's contemporary films lend themselves to analysis right now. It would appear--to me--that it may be better to let the films sit for (at least) a few years and then re-approach them.

I thought this was a decent enough user-generated 'Three Reasons' to post the link... plus, I really like the film.

Three Reasons - Phantom Of The Paradise (For Criterion Consideration)

Yeah, and someone else on YT did "Titicut Follies" (because it was rare, and controversial, and Criterion will save us!), and someone else did one for the "Perfect Blue" anime (because it's like, bold innovative anime, and Criterion will save us!)

Remember when I thought it would be a "neat idea" for fans to do their own Three Reasons? I withdraw the question. I forgot about the fans.
Wherever Criterion is mentioned, the 90's-nostalgic CWSU's do tend to take over the discussion, regardless of ownership, acquisition channels or reality.

I wonder if today's date has anything to do with the lack of posting. Hmm. . .

I was told at Criterion's facebook page the reason David Lynch is not in the collection is because of a fallout that they had with Lynch back in the laserdisk days. I do not see why Criterion needs Lynch's permission to license a film that is owned by MGM. As far as I know the only films that David owns of his would be Eraserhead and Inland Empire (US rights).

If I could have any film added to the collection it would be Blue Velvet. (IMO one of the great films of the 1980's) Does anyone know anything about this issue.

Maybe it's not so much that they need his permission per se, but just the fact that they like to have a lot of involvement from the director whenever possible (at least for those directors still alive, of course). So if he won't work with Criterion, maybe it would make it a less attractive package overall.

Wouldn't Lynch rather work with Criterion and have his movies presented in the best possible manner than seeing them receive shoddy transfers all over the place and poor distribution?

So I finally got around to watching (Netflix) White Material. The plot sounded very interesting to me and I was sure I'd enjoy it. Well... I didn't. Anyone else just feel really lost with this film? The ending I'm still trying to figure out. The main character just annoyed the heck out of me. Very big disappointment overall.

You'd think so, but apparently he is very particular and private, so when word of Criterion working on Eraserhead got out he got angry and left. I would love for someone to put out Lost Highway and do it justice.

Default Le Cercle Rouge choice

I'm having trouble deciding which version of Le Cercle Rouge to buy: Criterion or StudioCanal (my player is region-free).
I read part of a debate over on the Criterion forum, but it was a bit inconclusive.
I've been looking at screen comparisons at you-know-where: the StudioCanal is slightly cropped compared to the Criterion, but the Criterion might have incorrect colour-timing
I'm leaning towards the StudioCanal.
Does anyone here have both copies?
Has anyone seen it theatrically?
Did anyone who also has a region-free player choose one edition over the other?
