United Kingdom Any info on 'Get Carter'???

Anybody heard anything about a possible Blu-ray release? I would love a UK BD with the mighty '18' certificate...

And no, I'm not talking about the 2000 remake, I mean the original 1971 film with Michael Caine (Did you really need to ask? Of course not.).

Default New relase dvd only according to the Guardian

I stumbled across this old thread after seeing an article in the Guardian that had something to say on the matter:
Quote:
...there's a 40th anniversary edition of the popular Get Carter coming out? Yep, that's DVD only.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmb...echnology-lost

If this is true I simply can't understand it. I would say Get Carter has just the sort of cult following that would commercially justify a proper restoration and blu-ray release. And what better opportunity than the 40th anniversary?

Some studios still don't think Blu-ray is commercial enough, especially in the UK, so don't think there's any profit to be made in it, which is such a shame because if they don't at least try they'll never know if Blu-ray is commercial enough to them.

A cursory glance on Google and I can find plenty about the 40th Anniversary, but nothing about a commemorative DVD release. I think the Guardian writer may have spilled preliminary beans, and perhaps a Blu-ray is still coming...

Let us hope so! I believe this is one of those titles that would typically get a blu-ray relase. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that there is a clear link between frequent hi-def disc buyers and a gritty, grainy, Geordie gangster flic from the 70s

I'd be surprised if Warners only issue a DVD.

Some trivia for fans: Ted Lewis other Carter books remain stubbornly out of print but are well worth a read if you find them, Jack Carter And The Mafia Pigeon and Jack Carter's Law. The original novel Jack's Return Home is told in the first person and Carter is even more unpleasant and callous and the setting is even more squalid and grimy. All of Ted Lewis books are well worth reading but the only one I know of adapted to film is Plender which was made into Le Serpent, a pretty good thriller but not available on blu even in France.

There was a reproduction of the script signed by Mike Hodges published in a limited edition of 500, these turn up on ebay but make sure it comes with the original plastic folder.

Any reissue should go back to the US one sheet for cover art http://www.movieposterstudio.com/det...temNumber=1011 German posters for the film are very nice but the one sheet is one of my favourites for any film, bit pricey these days though.

Steve Chibnall's book on the film is excellent http://www.amazon.co.uk/Get-Carter-B...0&sr=1-2-fkmr0 I'm afraid you've missed the 40th anniversary screening last month but the trailer for it was on the website in HD so that looks like a good sign for a blu. Finally here's Mark kermode's twopennyworth http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/markkermo...niversary.html

Watched this again on DVD only a few weeks ago.

This was quite an early release here on DVD in the UK. Came out in 2000, in those wonderful Warner snapper cases

I had never seen it and my wife bought it for me for christmas that year.

Excellent film, lets hope for nice HD version.

Here's the cover of the Japanese soundtrack LP http://www.italiansoundtracks.com/so...getcarter.html Reckoned to have been pressed in as few as 50-200 copies it was one of the most expensive soundtracks among collectors, peaking at around £1500 for a near mint. The CD reissue cut that down to about £500. Beware counterfeits but keep your eye open in charity shops and car boot sales. Great cover artwork

Wow the UK cover for Harry Brown would definitely be an homage to that poster.

I sure hope this gets a proper restoration and release sometime here.

I could've sworn that KingSimba (the chap who often posts threads with release dates for upcoming Blu-ray releases) posted a thread for Get Carter a few months ago?

EDIT: Ah, I found it!

Thanks, found it on amazon as well
The Blu-ray should do well on this side of the pond.
