Then DVR function
and then DTS HDMA
and iPod/iTunes support (connect the iPod and use the play lists from there)

Besides all the things you mention, I would really like to see NTFS HDD support

Oh yes, thats the biggy for sure... I don't know what they were thinking only allowing it to read 4.something gig files.

I'd take in-game messaging and >2 GB Xvid/Divx playback. I'd also like to see Divx/Xvid supported inside of .mp4 files with working subtitles.

And let me use the PS3 to operate the PSP PSN store. The hard stuff for this already works. Sony just blocks the actual storefront.

Edit: if people are requesting NTFS support, I'd also like to request ext2/ext3 support.

For Blu-ray movie playback:

DTS-MA decoding

Audio preference selection (play the PCM track first; if not there, move on to TrueHD, etc...)

Ability to resume a BD-J title after stopping it

Screen capture ability

---

for games - nothing; just more of them

Not sure what you mean by this, the ps3 already has an upscaler for both games and video.

Ok, I thought of making a joke here and saying "HD DUD playback compatibility" but for the sake of being culled to death by clubs, stones, sticks, burned at the stake, banned for life, sent to outer space, etc I won't say it, lol.

Now, the title says "next update" but that doesn't imply software only. How about, for a second generation of PS3, a unit that doesn't generate a ton of heat? Sometimes I feel I'm cooking a BBQ around the area where the PS3 is. That's how hot it gets.

1. OpenCable support.
2. MKV files with external subtitle file support.
3. Stream DTHD/DTS-HDMA directly via HDMI.

Support for decoding DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio. After that, Profile 2.0 compliance (which seems inevitable anyway).

My list:

1. DTS-HD MA
2. In-game/movie XMB
3. Do my laundry
4. Cook dinner
5. Change my oil
6. Bathe my dog
7. Clean out my basement (I've really been putting those, hopefully SCEA gets off their asses sometime soon )
8. Automatically refill the TP holder when the roll is empty.

Some of you guys sure do expect a lot

My PS3 wish list for future updates:

DTS-HD MA decoding

bitstreaming of advanced audio codecs (if possible)

anamorphic up-conversion for non-anamorphic DVDs. I can't believe we don't have this already! (ie, taking a 4x3 lbxed DVD and turning it to 16x9 so you don't have to zoom on your projector)

up-scaling of SD material on Blu-ray Discs. It's *stupid* that you can upscale SD DVDs but not SD content on Blu-ray Disc!!!
