It depends. If the info was compromised and Sony didn't warn anyone, there may be a case. A mistake is very different than knowing about a compromise and keeping your customers in the dark.

Me too, but when "PS4" arrives Sony will definitely charge for people to play online, because servers cost money, they aren't free.

You talk as if you knew what happened, pathetic.

When I bought PS3 I didn't had X360, and played all the time on PS3, but now (present) it's essentially just for Blu-ray films/series, X360 is more gamer friendly and it's definitely my favourite console of this gen.

I should've just got a Blu-ray Player standalone instead of PS3, but PS3 seemed so good that I wanted it so bad.

If the future tellers really knew the future (bunch of bullshit they are), I would've bought a standalone Blu-ray Player, Captain Obvious.

I didn't see that part. I don't know how I didn't.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, you do know that a TOS doesn't always solve the legal questions. Different states have different laws and when operating within those states, you're bound by their regulations and statutes.

It's really sad that how society as a whole has become. The second anything goes wrong (not just talking about video games), people want to start a lawsuit and how the US economy is, people have more of a ichy trigger finger.

What a TOS does is attempt to enforce a choice of law...usually of the offeror's choosing. Without reviewing the PSN EULA (because I just don't care that much ), I think Sony tries to get the end user to agree to be subject to California law...??

I agree for the most part with your post. We have gotten to be a litigious society. I think part of that responsibility falls in line with both parties and not just the plaintiff. You don't see the companies making good on their errors. (Namely Microsoft and the RROD debacle.)

I don't think the economy has anything to do with it. I think people in general, just get upset when they feel as though they were wronged and want satisfaction.

I have two PS3's. One gets about 25% use for gameplay and the other effectively zero. When I bought the first it was the best player on the market and when I bought the second I saw no reason to change. They are still one of the best BD players on the market.

Yeah, being jobless gives me so much time to do things like read boring agreements

But yeah, I hear ya on the different laws/states thing. I see that part all the time in the agreements. Hell, I remember seeing those things way back when I had my first very Playstation (the grey one). Never really looked into what Florida had for their laws, or any other state's for that matter. But guess I've never really had to make use of them because I've never really had that big of an issue with any of my products/services or I've resolved it at the manager-level before having to go higher to resolve it.

Reading that fine print is time-consuming and a lot of misinformation on what customers can and cannot do in regards to their products and services is usually covered in those mind-numblingly boring paragraphs. To be perfectly honest, I didn't start reading everything in all the user agreements associated with the PS3 until the whole OtherOS feature being removed debacle started up a while ago.

Actually MS did (extending the warranty for it to 3yrs and refunding people who had paid MS to repair their console who had that issue but we're getting off topic). Society is lawsuit happy.

Agreed. I have a Samsung BDP-1590 that the wife bought a couple of months ago clearance at Target. Said it was "wireless-ready" on the box when she got it, then found out that you actually had to purchase an $80 network stick to do the wireless. If the thing weren't clearance, I would've chucked that thing back at Target. As luck would have it, found an alternative network stick that uses the same chipset as the Samsung version for only $25 at Newegg.

Still, the PS3 is my choice for the top BD player in the house. Works right out the box. Even with the PSN down, can still access Netflix and the online aspects of my BD's (since they aren't reliant on the PSN to connect to the 'net). Still planning on getting a second one myself once I get back on my feet.

The current PlayStation Network outage started when Sony pulled the plug on the service to thwart hackers who had found a way to steal content using faked credit card numbers, according to a new report.

As detailed on VentureBeat, a poster on Reddit.com called chesh420 has claimed that PSN went down shortly after new custom firmware hit the web.

Called Rebug.me, the mod let users access a developer network where they could enter a fake credit card number and download content at their leisure.

The latest version of Rebug.me went live at the end of March, with guides explaining how to use the credit card exploit appearing a week or so later – shortly before the PSN downtime began.

"Now, you can believe Sony's PR team which has kept you completely in the dark, or you can see the list of events above and come to your own conclusion," chesh420 wrote.

Sony hasn't commented on the reasons for the outage beyond blaming an "external intrusion". Earlier today it announced it was "rebuilding" the network to "provide the system with additional security."

I'm not a PSN memeber, but this hacker thing is quite scarry.

Makes one wonder if they are possible at doing MUCH more serious internet crimes, IE funneling of bank accounts, hacking into CIA, FBI, military files, etc...

I keep wishing SCEI would do something similar for the YLOD, but not yet. Wonder if they'll fess up on this PSN deal or if it will stay on the rumor side.
