Both a letterboxed (enhanced for widescreen TVs) and a full-frame version are included, and the full-frame version actually features more vertical image information, while losing almost no horizontal information, if I recall correctly. In any case, while the OAR of Equilibrium is indeed 2.35:1, the 1.78:1 transfer isn't necessarily cropped, because the film was not shot with anamorphic lenses, and thus additional vertical image information is available. FWIW... ![]() |

For the 1.78:1 release the live-action scenes are opened up so there's a lot of dead space on the top and bottom of the frame. During any CG sequences like the city shots the picture is cropped on the sides. This is common even for Super35 films because only the 2.35:1 protected region of a particular shot is used for CG sequences. To animate the entire open-matte frame when you are ultimately going to cover ~30% of the frame with matte bars is just a waste of time. The entire film is obviously meant for the 2.35:1 framing because of the dead space for the live action scenes and the fact that the image is cropped at the sides during the CG sequences. I think this movie has incredible cinematography and the carefully composed shots are ruined in the open-matte form. |

Which Dutch company released it? Many, if not most, Dutch Blu-rays are region-free even if the packaging indicates Region B. They just do not get tested as much because few are willing to take a chance and import a copy to see if it plays in Region A.

Best Buy has two different listings for Equilibirum?
One of them apparently was released back in '09 and is available now for $15 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Equilibr...06942&id=62904 And the other released in mid May for $13. Anyone know what the differences would be? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Equilibr...66517&id=62904 |

Ok this is getting a little frustrating, this will be released in 11 days and yet not hard details have emerged regarding OAR or extras! It seemed like people knew everything about From Dusk Till Dawn like a month before release! Then again I don't have much hope at this point after the last few Echo titles released
