In fact, the HD-DVD group probably scheduled them to speak in a slightly deceptive move to get them to stay. Now it kind of looks like a "big partner" in Warner just backstabbed them and ran to the competition.

Maybe there hoping the smaller HD DVD studio's will announce a format change as well.

You have to think the HD DVD supports are rewriting there speeches now.

They will say one of the following:

Ow! stop throwing eggs please.

Ahem... ahem... um AAAHHHEEEMMMMM.

Wow this is kind of awkward.

I bet they still speak. They will probably just talk about the titles that are being released before May. And spout out the HD-DVD numbers from last year.

Warner may show up to re-assure that they will release something though May 2008; however, doubtful.

I'd be more concerned with what Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks will say...

At this point everyone in the HDDVD camp is going to kind of look like fools if they say anything besides "we fought the good fight, we tried for what we believed... we failed. Congratulations BDA. We look forward to working with you."

^^ That would be the right and gracious thing to do.

What really should happen (but probably won't) is the HD-DVD side sees this nuke for what it is and does the right thing for everyone and essentially lays down and surrenders. There's no point in continuing. They're not going to see 60-40 or anything remotely close like that ever again. It's all over.

That's what they should do. Lay down and end it all at CES. But I highly doubt it.

If they don't say that, a lot of shareholders are going to go nuts.

A lot of people will be losing their jobs if those statements aren't said... A LOT of people.

This is spot on, IMHO. Stockholders aren't fond of quixotic behavior when their money's at stake.

I can only imagine how much money this has cost Toshiba. Selling discounted players under cost. Giving away thousands of movies with those players. Advertising. Bribe Money. They really lost their @$$'s in that deal.

Indeed it is. I know you, Spankey and a few others have invested more time and put up with more BS than most of us can imagine and this must be really, really sweet.
