thanks for the pic but are those dvd sized cases

is it really that hard for optimum to get a bit of consistency in their releases?

Just realised the Ponyo Deluxe Edition seems to be sold out everywere now.

You think its maybe a sign they have stopped production and working on the re-release now?

Nope, they seem to be the same size as the Ponyo deluxe edition which is blu-ray height.

Well they match better than slipless Nausicaa did.....
We are not going to get deluxe editions to match Ponyo, so this is as close as we get.

My copy of Laputa arrived today and just watched it. Picture quality is excellent.

As a side note the disk does contain both English and Japanese intros/credits. However you need to select the language in the Main Menu before the movie starts to see the one you wish. (English is the default).

Instead of wasting ink and lots of paper printing custom slips. I will simply small stickers of some form and stick them on the cases..

Here are the numbers if anyone wants to do any modding themselves.

Enjoy

I know I shouldn't, OCD being quite a serious condition if unchecked, but that did make me laugh.

Too bad the U.S. won't be getting a BluRay release of this title... yet anyway. But the BluRay cap shots do look absolutely gorgeous, and I'm at least glad that the dub preserves Joe Hisaishi's new score, because that was what really made the dub for me. I'm a little sad that the extra chatter is gone (I liked a lot of it, namely the pirates' dialogue), but there's always my 2003 copy.

Well the Theatrical release of 'Arrietty' seems to have been brought forward to the end of July instead of August...

Is anyone goes to the UK premier in Sheffield?

Whisper of the Heart

It is being released in Japan on July 20th. So far the UK and Australia release it about 2-5 months after.. So we could be getting it in October.

Arrietty is slated for a theatrical release on the 29th July, but if Disney aren't having their release till 2012 then that may put breaks on a Blu-ray release over here..

Disney don't affect releases here. I'd had Tales from Earthsea for several years before the US got it.

well yes, but they own the rights to the dubbed audio.. so they do effect releases over here..indirectly... Optimum and Madman in Australia have to do some kind of deal with Disney to be able to use it, which effects are releases.

They had no qualms letting Optimum release Tales from Earthsea (with dub) years earlier. I doubt they'll have a problem with Arrietty either.

Default Ghibli UK USA

I still hope for more releases of the titles in the US. After the differences in the Blu-ray of Nausicaa UK vs. USA.
I rather wait for the next title coming from the US.
This was me hoping Blu-ray would be less differences between Japan, USA and the UK.

http://ghiblicon.blogspot.com/2011/0...y-blu-ray.html

And don't tell me the UK doesn't looses in the detail area, besides the washed out colors.

I think the reviewer calling the UK/AUS release a wreck is going WAY over the top. The only complaints I have heard are from grain lovers. Yes DNR was used but some grain is still there and there really isn't any noticeable detail lost, unless you analyze it frame by frame...

I think the one frame that is posted in my link is enough.
Just open the three captures to full size and you see the japanese is by small margin better than the US and the UK has nothing to do with the other two. The term grain lover is so stupid, either it has grain like even a normal Photo from the time would have or don't. But to use DNR in excess just to remove it to appeal to people who don't wan't to watch old Movies is stupid. It's as you would remove the structure from a canvas of a old painting just because you think smooth looks better.

I think the UK is vastly superior. Grain doesn't bother me but I think it's unnecessary in an animated movie and if, like Optimum did to the best of my eyesight, you can use DNR without removing detail then I'm all for it.
