Good things that came from the format war...

Looking back, what positive aspects do you think came out of the format war?

Price cuts.
Lots of love from the gracious hd dvd fans at avs and hdd.

Indeed, but wider acceptance of 1 format to dominate the market has litterly the same effect as there was competition, only the price cuts actually happened much faster. Remember blu ray players were 1 grand? We are at the peak of wide mainstream adoptance and Im excited to see it's happening much sooner rather then later. The days of early adoptance has reached it's lifespan.

Im also glad to see that even AVS and other Pro HD-DVD websites are willing to reason despite their earlier propaganda nonsense to help justify that they made the right decesion. We are both at the casino playing poker, we got all the chips at the end. The only thing they can say in the end was, "Good game." Yes, you have the sore losers that are in denial but they are a lost cause. Let them drown in there depression and stick with there dead format. There's always ebay witch is the first thing I would recommend to any pro HD-DVD person. After all, we chose Blu Ray because it was the winning format from the very beginning but most importantly, it's because we love, support, and embrace movies.

Rejoice everyone! The time HD becomes the absolute mainstream is almost here!

Rapid price drops on players
BOGOs
Drew the public's attention to HD formats
Pushed development of HDMI switching receivers

Definitely price cut. We would never see $277 BD player or $399 PS3 without HD-DVD slashing their prices.

Great perspective from a neutral site. Even they are now calling Blu-Ray the successor to dvd.

most certainly the BOGO offers that happened. my collection doubled in size because of it, also like others stated the drop in price of the players helped alot. thanks blu ray

I expect the BOGO's will survive as we are now in competition with regular dvd.

The PS3 probably would have dropped for competition with the Wii and the 360... Which itself would prolly have been a big factor in lowering general BD player prices, prolly not as fast though.

Wouldn't have had nearly as many good sales going on 4Q though.
