Snake handling, Orgies, Giant Axes, Loose Witches. Its got it all!
Plus James Earl Jones is awesome in this film!

Schwarzenegger is a good physical specimen for the character, but a bad choice of actor for said character. Conan isn't just some big dumb thug--he's actually quite intelligent, and uses his wit against his foes just as much as his sword. Still, I love the original film.

The new film looks dumb as hell, getting away from the personalized, gritty, sword and sorcery of REH, and going for a more epic dark fantasy tale filled with more meaningless CGI.

I really wish filmmakers would just stop trying to copy Star Wars. It's been over 30 years already. And they need to lay off of the f/x from time to time. Just because it can be done does not mean it should be done.

Conan the Barbarian is a day one. I would prefer the original cut but I'll take what they give me. The longer the cut the more Conan speaks, which isnt a good thing. The features were fascinating on the SE version and I hope they r included. Its one of the few movies Ive owned where I've listened to the soundtrack more than I've viewed the film.

As to Destroyer, this is the example of the movie I always use on how to screw up a sequel. I wouldnt take Destroyer if it came free.

Conan the Barbarian is a day one purchase but I'm not sure about Destroyer. If it wasn't for that film we might be talking about buying a trilogy instead just the two BDs. Funny tidbit.... the budget for Destroyer was actually lower than the first film. Never forget reading the first review of that film and reading that fact...

I guess I'm in the minority then because I thought The Destroyer was awesome! Had Subotai come back instead of us getting stuck with suck ass Malak, the movie would've been a million times better.

I'll agree with that, but at least the wizard (narrator) came back.

Can't wait to have those two Conan movies in Blu-ray.

Also, they are releasing "Conan the Adventurer" the animated (season one) on DVD on July 26, 2011.

Red Sonja will probably hit the Blu-ray market before the release of the new movie (2012?).

Again, this is something the filmmakers do not understand about the character. Conan makes and breaks alliances as he needs them. He's a loaner. He doesn't have a sidekick, doesn't roll in an ensemble, and if he does, it's because he needs the folks involved for that one adventure only.

He has a lot of contempt and mistrust for people, just like REH did.

Red Sonja has been available here in the UK for almost a year now, and if you want it I would suggest importing, it's very cheap currently, only £6.99 which is roughly $11.33 (today's conversion rate, shipping not taken into account).

Not day 1, but I will get it when it reaches $13-15. Then I will get Red Sonja on German BD and I have the whole trilogy.

The US release had a mono soundtrack - even if spread across two channels.

Thanks Poshteh1!

I'll verify the import cost to Canada and if it's not too expensive, I'll take this one for sure!

It wasnt the lack of Jerry Lopez, the problem was Malak was made into a more comedic character. The first moie worked because they played it seriously. They tried to go for too many comedic moments in the second one. With a movie like this, if u get the audience laughing they eventually figure out how silly the whole thing actually is.

Destroyer Day 1 Purchase

Barbarian $4 at BB 5 for $20 Sale

Destroyer is by far the more entertaining movie of the two. It's so campy, there's almost an Indiana Jones quality to it. It has by far the more memorable lines:

"I grab him, and I take him!"

"It's just writing on the wall!"

"Enough talk!"

And just numerous simple barbarian moments from Arnold.

Yes, everything about Barbarian is more polished, better directed, etc. but for God's sake you have Arnold playing the lead in a dramatic role. That's just not going to work. And it didn't work in Barbarian.

Obviously in the minority here, but I know which one I always have the better time watching with friends.
