Public Perception of PS3: Cheap Blu-ray Player or Expensive Game Console?

I don't look at the PS3 as a cheap blu-ray player nor an expensive game console in anyway that others see it! To me the question or the poll demerits the PS3 in either way one votes! I can say this, however, that the PS3 is a great value for your entertainment dollar because it plays blu-ray high definition movies and high definition games! I AM NOT CASTING A VOTE FOR THIS POLL!!!

This pole isn't about the merits of the system, I love my PS3, and would not have voted either if I thought this thread was demeaning the PS3... this pole is about how well we think Sony has done its job marketing, and it looks like they did it not well at all... from the results, about what we think the PUBLIC believes, it seems that Sony is failing to get out the word about the BD capabilities of the PS3.

The thread name itself asks the question properly. Public Perception. Not what we think, but what does the public see the ps3 as, from your perspective. I thought it was very clear.

Blitz6speed nailed it... what is the PUBLIC PERCEPTION... no matter how influential we may think we are, what we do has little impact on total public perception... It was pretty obvious to myself and others that the intent of the question was to gauge how well Sony was doing their job in marketing, because public percerception IS their job, and they have kind of dropped the ball on this one...

Luckily there are enough people like you, SumYonGuy, who see the platform for what it is, a damn fine multimedia system, and those people have purchased all the units that have shipped. Unless Sony can shift their marketing into high gear, and get the word out that it is NOT just a gaming system, the sales will slow.

There are two publics. To the gamer the PS/3 is probably perceived as being expensive. To an A/V enthusiast I would think it is considered rather inexpensive.

My hope is both flock to it.

SumYon, of course I too think the PS3 is an incredible value and that Sony made the right decision by making the PS3 as future proof as possible, but I wasn't asking what your or anyone else's individual, personal perception of the PS3 is. Most of the forumites here seem to understand that except for you and a couple others. The poll was asking for you to think outside of yourself to consider what the GENERAL PUBLIC thought of the PS3 in these two important aspects of value. The reason I didn't give an in between answer was because I knew that almost everyone would choose that option. I want to find out which way the the scale tipped even if it was close one way or the other. If you are incapable of critical thinking, though, then maybe it's best that you chose not to vote in this poll.

Why bother thinking about something that other people think about certain products that you think is what other people think about certain products? Really stop this because it does not do any good.

You seem to have missed the point, SumYon. None of these polls, forums, or Web Sites do any good; people's dollars are the only thing that will maintain a technology or allow it to die. It's obvious that you have no mind for marketing, otherwise you'd realize that that all companies need to speculate on the reasons behind whether their product will sell or not, which is what I'm doing here.

Now that the PS3 has been out for over two months, we no longer need to hypothesize on what the public's reaction is to its cost. There have been numerous articles written and threads in technology forums started about the PS3, which most of us have read. That's why I was asking what the Blu-ray Forum members have noticed in regards to the feedback on the value of the PS3.

Since all of this seems to puzzle you , why don't you move on?

PS3 is an excellent product that includes a blu-ray player of value that everyone can purchase. As a gaming console, it has the latest technology available today which makes the PS3 a great buy! Because it is a blu-ray player and a gaming console in one, it is no doubt worth of a purchase! PEACE!

No one is confused as you are! Speak proper English and you just maybe understood! Take special ed classes if you have to and English as a second language for yourself because you do not convey your thoughts as well as others! While you are at it, stick with facts and not hypothetics!
