I didn't see the other SEs until their release on VHS, but I liked them, too. The new musical sequence in Jabba's palace is rather ridiculous, but it still doesn't wreck the film for me. I liked the new John Williams music at the end of "Jedi", and seeing more of Cloud City in "Empire". Overall, most of the changes don't really bother me, because I don't treat "Star Wars" that seriously to begin with. Its not a perfect film series by any means, but its far from being the worst, too.
Good Posting.

Bottom Line is just enjoy the films for what they are instead of debating about the SE changes. Their is nothing wrong with the SE's so drop it.

I don't agree with every change that Lucas has made either. But since I don't own them, it's not my place to feel I have a say.
Seems like you might have missed the point, I was simply playing Devil's Advocate. I wasn't necessarily talking about Lucas or Star Wars, I was just wondering if you would still stand by the creator of a movie that you love (could be any movie or any writer/director) making changes to said movie that actually would end up ruining the experience for you. Just because you don't own the movie doesn't mean you have to be okay with or approve the changes.

Maybe so, but again, if a version of a movie that you love was only made available on an old, outdated format in the future, you'd be okay with that? Wouldn't you want said movie to continue to exist on whatever new format comes along and be presented in a quality equal to that of other movies that you love to watch?

I understand how you feel, but as I asked Beast, what if a filmmaker DID do that for you? I was speaking completely hypothetically.

It's cool if you like them, I respect your opinion. But a lot of people don't like them, and because of Lucas' one version and one version only attitude, they're getting a very raw deal.

True, but you'd be a lot better off in taking your views to the studio, instead of discussing such things with those who have no power to change things.

Of course I would, but I also understand that, in the end, its not my decision to make. The studios and directors largely control what gets released, and those choices are based on the information they recieve from a mass audience. If they don't believe another release would profit enough to justify its expense (rightly or wrongly), then they'll avoid doing so...its that simple. If you want to change their minds, take your complaints to them...and if you already have, then you've done all you can do. Continued complaints won't make things any better.

Nope. Didn't miss the point at all. And as I noted in my post, it wouldn't bother me in the least.
It doesn't change the enjoyment I gained in the past from the films. And I'd happily enjoy the new versions.

I can't fathom any change to any movie that would ruin a film for me. Hell, some movies could use some heavy changes.
And it certainly wouldn't ripple backwards through time and alter the enjoyment I already recieved from the films. So it's a moot point.

Sure. But would expect any new format would only feature the new version of the film. Something I'd willingly accept.
Much like I hope and expect to only see the latest and greatest versions of the Star Wars films on Blu-Ray.

Do you own The Dark Knight? The Godfather trilogy?

For that matter, does this 'it's not my place' philosophy of yours extend to other goods and services?

Do you feel consumers should always and without exception just shut up and take whatever suppliers offer because they just don't have a say?

And while we're on the subject, is it really your place to agree with or defend changes to something you don't own? If you truly don't have a say wouldn't this thread be quite a few posts shy of where it is right now?

And? See my sig? I wouldn't expect every Batman fan to accept that view as the only truth.

I own The Dark Knight, in the case that I own it on Blu-Ray. Your point?
As for the Godfather films? I wouldn't own them if you gave them to me.

Only when it extends to something that can be defined as "Art".

See above. Only in cases where something can clearly be defined as "Art".

I'm agreeing with and defending the right of the artist and creator to do what he wants.
